  2. There were not and are not huge opportunities. Medium sized country that can't cut better deals than the EU. Happy to hear specifics of opportunities. UK is high spending social country similar to most of Europe and different to most of world. America doesn't need a deal. China is a risk of being a bad ally. Africa? Not a huge fan of EU but in is better than out.

  3. Peter is wrong about financial centre declining. They are still the main financial centre for Europe. I remember Brexit campaign going on about how the Europeans had it in for uk. If this was true they would have closed down the eurobond market and really hurt uk. They realised that better to work with some thing that benefits all.

  4. Europe ship has sailed. Nothing to discuss in this election. I don't feel that optimistic about UK. Economic slide for a decade. Not a lot you can do to fix. There is little room for manoeuvre. Best you can hope is that the government stops making major mistakes And starts reskilling the workforce

  5. UK has 1.4 million immigrants in last few years and a labour shortage. Problem is that the immigrants have lost percentage of workers compared to those from EU.

  6. Iberia is good Portuguese made an early start. However Spain soon joined them as a deep water power. Europe America Pacific they sailed. UK caught up but was a while before they could carry the tonnage. They started small with privateering and slavery.

  9. Most of deals have tiny benefits and are not as good as deals the EU cuts with same countries. UK cuts tariffs for imports. However not getting much in return in terms of tariff cuts on exports to those countries.
