Where have you heard Alex clarify Harris' arguments? I would like to hear that. I don't understand Harris at all past the point that he thinks Christians are stupid. I would seriously like to understand his argument.

@goodvibes-gy3jn I can't remember who he debated, but by the end of the debate, Sam was attacking Christianity. To be honest I don't remember if he used the word "stupid," but it was clear that is how he feels about Christians and I wondered by he didn't attack Muslims or Buddhists or some other religion. I really just wanted to understand his explanation for objective morality without God. If you can point me in the direction of a good explanation of his theory, I am truly interested.

@roysherwin9348 I know! So where is Harris getting this idea of morality without God?
6
@roysherwin9348 Good point. I am intrigued by atheists' interest in something in which they don't believe. They aren't out there shaking their first up to Zeus or Odin insisting they doesn't exist. It seems they are just bothered by the fact that many people do believe in God.

@r.the.mazzochist2259 I'm a Christian and I am always interested in hearing the atheist arguments. However, I find most of them seem to minimize religion, Christianity in particular, and mock it. How is that a good argument?

@MasterChakra7 The one I remember watching was his debate with William Lane Craig. He made no sense to me.

I'm a Catholic, too. We do love our symbols. Funny, I've been thinking about that a lot lately. Just went to Adoration the other day.
4
@MasterChakra7 I have seen a couple of his debates on YouTube.

@roysherwin9348 Which beliefs?
2
Oh! Wow! Yes! I've been struggling with that and now I get it. Thank you for that.
2
@lighting7508 But why the Christian God? There are people who believe all kinds of things about morality and deities? Why don't I see more atheists attacking Buddhism or Shintoism? Why not Jews or Muslims? Hindus? Sikhs? Mormons? Why Christianity? I think it is because Christians have the best explanation for the objective morality that our postmodern world desperately wants to dismantle. Objective morality hold all of us to a standard that we didn't create. People want to create their own standards.

@michaelsachtjen2263 Thank you! I'll check those out.

@paulaaron4821 I'm the same way. Once I started looking a Christianity as an adult, it took on a new level of meaning. That you for sharing.
1
@peaceandlove544 Good point. I don't know why I wrote it that way. We do love our symbols. And I did attend Adoration that day, but Adoration is not an example of a symbol. How about--the white lily is a symbol of Mary? Or genuflection is a sign of respect and humility? Green means it is ordinary time. The Alpha and Omega sign, the fish...

I just started watching this and am looking forward to listening to the whole thing. But I am always happily bemused by Jordan Peterson's sort of rumpled, sometimes mismatched garb. I do believe he is so focused on the esoteric that clothing is just an inconvenience to him. Am I the only one who loves him for this?
1
Funny, I've thought that myself. If we only had him on our side.

@zacka9438 Which God?
1
@zacka9438 That's bananas! Whatever god the muslims are following is quite different from the Christian God.
1
@zacka9438 Ooooh. Good question. I hadn't thought of that. I always assumed they did but they differ on Jesus and if you don't believe Jesus is the Son of God, then is it the same God? Muslims, on the other hand, have such a different idea of what god wants from them--this can't be the same god. Maybe it comes down to their perception of God. It appears that all three religions believe in a timeless, non-material, spaceless god but have different ideas of what God wants from us.
1
@zacka9438 But Christians have much different ideas about how to live among strangers. We are commanded by our God to love one another kill people who don't believe as we do.
1
@capitalb5889 I assume that all three think they are following the same god. However, since all three have different ideas about what that means, only one of them can be correctly following God.

LOL I think he's an arrogant prick. Seriously. I find it difficult to understand how anyone could enjoy him. OTOH, I find Jordan Peterson, while just as intelligent and over my head, to be a easy personality from whom I can learn. I guess it just comes down to personality.
1
@green.release LOL I don't remember what I was thinking about. I know it bothers me that atheists mock religion but I don't what I mean by "minimize." In retrospect, it doesn't make sense, does it?
1
@green.release I'm sorry. I don't remember the conversation.
1
@ I’m not sensitive about others not believing what I believe. I don’t understand them, but they can believe or not believe what they want. What interests me is how rude atheists can often be towards people who believe in God. Of course, that’s not all atheists. I’m sure you are tolerant and respectful to all people, even those who have what you believe to be a misguided belief in God.
