What is the incremental cost to an engineering firm to design in a system to tie bridge sections to one another? Very little. What is the financial benefit to a construction company to reduce the quantity and quality of materials called for in the plans? Millions.

Any group of people who can be sold the line "overloaded vehicles" without realizing that the same government is responsible for regulating traffic weights is too gullible to avoid this.

  9. Yes. China has fooked up beyond all estimations. They've built millions of things that they cannot afford to maintain, and they built them poorly so they need way more than typical maintenance. They are screwed. 10-15 years, maybe less.
