My heart goes out to the victims and their families and friends. Additionally, it's time to face the reality of how harmful it is to lose people like this. Keeping airborne craft that were built in the earliest days of flight, and during the worst conditions for quality control (war) is not worth losing these lives. Metallurgy was not great in this time period, meaning both air frame and engines are prone to catastrophic failures. The idea that these machines can be kept operational 'in perpetuity' is foolish when you think about it. Park these damn things, and preserve them on the ground. We can't keep losing bright, talented people to these crashes.

@robinhoodwinker8621 yes, commercial airlines do go down. But they serve the public good- namely moving people and goods. Private ownership of antique warbirds is nothing more than a vanity project. Park them, polish them, preserve them and admire them.
