  1. Agreed. Now, we can be pretty sure we are not going to find life on par with a golden retriever in our solar system. But the notion that we can conclusively say there is NO life here is foolish.

  2.  @Alien_isolationist The problem I run into when working through the possibilities is: "Alien species masters faster than light travel, only to crash into a planet at the end of their trip." 🙄 Consider the movie Arrival: Brilliant beyond imagination creatures travel across the galaxy to visit us, but can't figure out how to speak English. They build a space ship that defies gravity, but can't put together a sentence in Spanish.

  4.  @swampfox5660  I believe there is life in other places in our SOLAR SYSTEM, and for sure in our galaxy. Most of it will be single-cell, or at best a small creature without consciousnesses. The more I learn about the unique protective qualities of Earth and how unusual our planet is, the more I fear the dream of meeting advanced creatures who have mastered faster than light travel is practically zero. I would LOVE to be wrong about that.

  6. Seems exceedingly unlikely that life ONLY evolved on Earth. But the vast distances of the universe mean we are essentially alone.

  13.  @Alien_isolationist Possible, but again it would seem there is a contradiction: Interstellar faster than light travel, but can't dodge a missile? Can't shoot down a missile? heck, WE can do that with a little regularity now.
