  6.  @openleft4214  Left, do some checking into the distances from those potential life-harboring solar systems and the flat Earth comparison will look reasonable. Even if a species developed “warp drives” to bend space-time, we would know. LIGO is operational and recording 24-7-365. Much like a boat moving through the water, FTL travel creates a wake. We would see the gravitational waves if an FTL ship came anywhere near our solar system. It’s a little disappointing in some ways, but fascinating in other ways. PBS Space Time is a source of info, likewise Astrum. Both are on YouTube.

  7.  @openleft4214  Fair points, but consider this: why would a species who mastered FTL travel crash here? And why would anyone develop a way to “mask” the gravitational waves generated in FTL travel? Both of these questions are valid even if we assume other species have vastly superior technology. If they are smart enough to make FTL work, AND figure out how to hide the space-time ripples, wouldn’t we expect their superior tech to avoid crashing into Earth? Mind you, this is before we even discuss the energy required to do such a thing. 🤓
