Can I point out that Barrow county Georgia is very different than Hawaii? In Winder Georgia, the school board is Republican controlled. The Sheriff who met with the perp's father is Republican. The state legislature in Georgia is Republican, and the Governor of Georgia is Republican. The Republican plan was to put armed officers in the schools, which they did. Those cops ran to the shooter, and risked their lives as we hoped they would. They successfully stopped additional murders, and we are grateful to them. This is the Republican plan, and it worked within the laws crafted and enacted by the Republican legislature: 1. The cops were already on scene, 2. they were armed, and 3. they risked their lives for the teachers and children. This is Georgia's plan, and it worked as designed. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢

I agree. Armed cops in the school, they ran towards danger as soon as the violence began and risked their lives to stop the killing. The plan worked exactly as it was designed, and I am grateful to the officers who risked their lives here. What I am not O.K. with is a plan that even when perfectly executed leaves us burying our teachers and our children. I wish I could hug those in Winder who are suffering right now.

If you are who you say you are, I am deeply sorry for your community's loss. I am heart broken for the teachers and the children we lost, and for the survivors who are forever maimed. My heart goes out to all those who will live with this trauma. I want you to do something with this pain: Realize that your school board is controlled by a particular political party. Your Sheriff is a member of that group, your state legislature is controlled by that group, and your Governor is a member of that group. That group's plan was to put armed cops in schools, and by all accounts these cops ran to danger and risked their lives as we hoped they would. This was the plan in Barrow county, and everyone did the best that we can expect of them within the current plan. And still, today there are parents with their hearts ripped out today as they make plans for their child's remains. Teachers are at the morgue. Don't surrender to the pain and accept this as something you can't change. Look at what the plan was, notice it failed, and get involved with making and implementing a better plan. I wish you and your family well, and your community as well.

The county Sheriff here is Republican, and the kid's father is MAGA. Local school board is Republican controlled, so no way your example could happen in Barrow county. And don't look for any promises from the Republican controlled state legislature or the Republican Governor.

Hang on, Georgia voters don't agree. They elected Republicans to the Governorship, the state legislature, and that local school board. Heck, even the Barrow County Sheriff who met with the kid's father after the initial threats is Republican. Georgia has weighed the death of teachers and kids, and they have made their choice. My heart aches for the kids, and they can't vote yet so they are stuck with what their parents chose. I predict we will see that those parents are willing to accept these events when the polls close in November.

They turned to God? That makes sense, because the sure can't turn to their Republican controlled school board. They can't turn to the Republican Sheriff who knew about the kid's threats, and met with the MAGA dad. They sure can't turn to their Republican legislature, nor can they turn to their Republican Governor. So yeah, the only option is to pray. My heart aches for the children and the teachers.😭😭😭😭

Don't worry people, the Republican Sheriff and the Republican Governor here both held separate press conferences about this and promised to protect the citizens by....(checks notes)... actually they didn't even promise to do anything to prevent this repeating. Not even an empty promise.

Have a thumbs up, because i agree. The officers risked their lives, and they clearly saved other lives. I am grateful to them. What I am not O.K. with is that even though the plan worked EXACTLY as designed by the state and local government, our world has been stripped of two cherished children and two teachers. Plus all the wounded and permanently disfigured who are expected to survive. What kind of 'successful' plan ends with all this death, dismemberment, and trauma?
