Matt Smith and Patrick Troughton, as well as both having bow ties, have the same clownish personality but Matt has a bit of the childishness of Colin Baker and his grumpy attitude, Tom Baker and Christopher Eccleston have the same toothy grin and similar alien personality, John Hurt is the same height as Patrick Troughton and Sylvester McCoy and has a similar voice to Patrick Troughton only croakier, Colin and Tom Baker's hair have the same fuzziness/frizzy ness, Paul McGann is a level headed Doctor like Peter Davison, Peter Capaldi looks like an older David Tennant, Matt Smith has the Darkside of Sylvester McCoys Doctor, Jon Pertwee and Peter Capaldi have similar hair, Capaldi has the seriousness of William Hartnell, Chris Ec has the vulnerability of Peter Davison and his compassionate side, and Jon Pertwee has the seriousness of Paul McGann, and David Tennant has the lonesome look of Tom Baker...

I know the War Doctor isn't numbered and Peter Capaldi is still the Twelfth Doctor but still. People say there's currently twelve or thirteen or fourteen doctors (even though the latest incarnation, Jodie Whittaker, is called the 13th Doctor)! It's so confusing and messed up! No disrespect to John Hurt, though, he made a great Doctor but as a fan I just feel it would've given the 8th Doctor some purpose. I think it would've also looked good if Paul teamed up with David and Matt in The Day of the Doctor, and then see him regenerate into Christopher Eccleston near the end.

  342. Casting an older actor as the Doctor sort of in a way fits into the continuity of the show! Because there's a line in the episode, "Flesh and Stone" where the 11th Doctor says to River Song, "River Song, I could bloody kiss you!" in which she replies, "Yeah. Well, maybe when you're older." It's very possible that she was referring to his future self, The 12th Doctor who of course IS older than 11! So, it's highly likely that Capaldi's Doctor WILL encounter River Song! And possibly snog her!

  433. I'm glad too that they've cast an older actor as the Doctor BUT I just can't imagine HIM playing the role! Based on the previous roles I've seen him play (e.g. Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It or John Frobisher in Torchwood.) he played sort of 'grumpy' characters. Doesn't seem Doctor-like! The Doctor is usually an eccentric character. The only other exception I know of is Peter Davison... I mean, is PCs doctor gonna be like a throwback to that? Grumpy? I just hope S.M has made the right choice.
