  1. this is incorrect. We DO have a manufacturing industry. Only it is in things that are not consumer based as that makes too little profit vs. industrial. Australia are leaders in petroleum and mining equipment manufacturing for example. There's a solid damn reason why you don't see Philips consumer products anymore but you see Philips everything in a hospital.

Another example is medical and surgery equipment, which has an average growth in Australia of 7.1% from 2015-2020. If you wondering, car manufacturing was always going to die off once government subsidies were gone. Germany, France and the US heavily subsidise their car manufacturing industries. In reality, the death started in the 1980s. Australians just did not buy petrol consuming, high insurance premium Holdens anymore and local manufacturing was far too slow to adjust to these changing consumer preferences. Combine it with being far from from source components from Japan, US, South Korea and China and a relative lack of shipping lanes and traffic.... It was NEVER about high wages. It has been independently economically assessed.

This was due to Australian farmers selling off their co-ops, that were prominent in the early 2000s, not saving or diversifying when times were good and selling their co-ops when prices plummeted. House prices have increased mainly due to historically lax lending to AUSTRALIANS. Commercial property is still dominated by Americans, British and Europeans. You are aware Optus is 100% owned by the Singapore government right? China isn't the only boogeyman, unlike the news wants to tell you.

He's Aussie as well thus unlike VisualPolitik at times, it is a good well informed video from a person actually familiar with the country. Australian manufacturing is better than ever. Renewable Natural Gas, or gas that comes from organic waste such as landfill and construction waste, has a far greater immediate future as it is carbon negative, reduces methane by 90% over landfill and importantly, can use existing natural gas infrastructure unlike hydrogen, whose infrastructure has to be built. Deloitte predicts the majority of the US trucking fleet by 2030 will run on renewable natural gas. Also,*renewable natural gas is literally safer to use vs hydrogen*

The Australian government, all the farmers associations and the UN itself knows Australia is one of the most food secure places in the world. We can export that eh. And the car industry was NEVER a key industry. We should not use taxpayer money to ever subside low profit industries. Also it was distance from source components, lower demand for locally made cars BY AUSTRALIANS, terrible marketing and adjustment to changing Aussie tastes in car purchases, and relative lack of shipping routes to blame for the death of it, not high union wages.
