A Kiwi here now living in Melbourne. I was 3 years into a 4 year undergrad, majoring in geography when mental illness got too much for me at the time and I dropped out. I have an alright career now in my mid 30s so I feel it’s too late to finish it, but we’ll see. I appreciate your videos showcasing Australian geography! I watched your Melbourne earthquake video and knew it was an existing slip fault line going by what I looked up, but lacked the knowledge to know which one, so thanks for explaining it! I’m from Christchurch, and in an ironically way, the Feb 2011 earthquake hit just before my first lecture of the year there! Everyone got a strong education on earthquakes after. And also, well, knowing Melbourne and Victoria is more earthquake active than other parts of Australia, and with this year’s and the Mansfield earthquake, I’ve realised unfortunately Melbourne is woefully underprepared for them, both in a public education stance and building protection compared to it being drilled into your head from a young age with earthquake drills etc back in NZ. But thank you for your videos! A reminder of what I could have been in another life but hey, you carry on!

Here’s a clue - this is 2019 before a high interest rate environment and France having a ton of economies of scale in nuclear infrastructure - “The delays at the Flamanville site in northern France come on top of a massive cost overrun at the Hinkley Point nuclear project EDF is building in Britain and a decade-long delay to the Olkiluoto plant in Finland. @jpatten yep and many many geographical happenings in Australia are recorded in the stories of Aboriginal people, only us foreigners were too ignorant to factor them in as clues to that physical geography, only for them to be proven right all along. This is slowly changing but not fast enough. A lot of the main old established arterial roads in the main centres in Australia and regionally were originally old Aboriginal trading routes and it makes sense. It’s the reason why Sydney’s inner streets are really the way they are. Old paths. Much like how the Romans used existing roads made by tribes in Britain - that of course are still used to this very day.

@OzGeologyOfficial Thanks! I have done a lot since and pulled myself out of it. FAR from easy. Part of it was moving to Melbourne by myself and I am still on that journey, but hey, that's why I'm here in a way, to give myself those experiences and challenges. I don't exercise for the physical aspects really for example! I know I'm thankfully not close to how I felt back then, and I always try to make sure I would never get back there. I'm older and wiser now as well and know how I tick a lot more. Forcing myself to learn life things is the only way. Also, yeah, I've realised that a good part of my mental health is brain chemical based, and I do a lot more when well rested and not suffering as much from my chronic illness that affects this. But hey, I didn't know all this back then and I pick up on it now. Older and wiser (and a lengthy medical journey in 2 countries) eh!

Oh gees, this Blackrock conspiracy has to stop. They do exactly the same thing as your Super Fund, in that they invest OTHER people's money on behalf of them, and like your Super, they typically do not ever buy out companies as a whole, only part ownership. You can even get Blackrock to invest your money for you via their iShares ETFs. Super Funds own far more mineral wealth via ownership in the likes of BHP and Rio Tinto.

@RickBlaine This depends really. In reality, Super Funds are the largest shareholders of BHP. Australian Super own 3.44% of BHP by themselves, let alone other Super Funds. Super Funds use custodians like HSBC and JP Morgan to invest it for them. Too many people don't know how financial markets or how Super Fund investment works, which leads to dumb conspiracies like this Blackrock one. Notice how they never state HSBC or JP Morgan as they dunno other ones and they aren't mentioned in Facebook posts they believe?

Multiple financial reports time and again state renewables are cheaper both for them to produce from AND for the end consumer. Do you think they can lie to shareholders? Do you think they want to pay expensive gas supply contracts or $0 for Sun and wind?

@jiminverness They literally cannot lie to shareholders nor have any incentive to. Also if you don;t know what supply contracts are in wholesale electricity generation, that's the entire point bud. Go look up the Australian Energy Council's 'Background briefing: How coal and gas prices impact retail electricity bills' article and read it. By the way, they literally represent natural gas companies and even they blame the gas for your higher bills in 2022 and 2023. Also if you don't know what the DMO is, you actually the ignorant one

No, renewables are not high priced. Multiple financial reports from energy generation companies state as much. It is more that coal is even more expensive than gas, and we don’t have enough pumped hydro or batteries and thus the higher use if natural gas for electricity peaking demand.

Once again, climate change is concerning because of the RATE of change and that it is caused by mainly us. There is natural change that happens e.g. the massive retreat of the Franz Josef glacier over the last 300-400 years is mainly natural, as was this, but we can tell the difference based upon past patterns.
