The really chilling thing is this: Every time you talk to a Russian man for the next 50-odd years, there's a small but not insignificant chance they were party to something like this (or rape, murder, torture, child stealing, etc). Of course, after the war ends, they'll all claim they were the GOOD Russians who didn't want to be there.

Let Russia fume as much as it wants, so long as it's caged behind a wall of NATO (which may include their southern neighbours; Kazakhstan has expressed interest in joining) and under no illusions that a single Russian bullet crossing the border will trigger a massive Article 5 reaction.

  12. Not to mention, most neighbouring Arab states don't actually want to help Palestinians beyond stirring the pot and occasionally supplying weapons. They'll point to their treatment as evidence of how terrible Israel is to keep them as a handy external enemy, but do nothing to relieve the suffering.

Bear in mind they're not trying to construct a believable story, they're trying to saturate all channels with the talking point du jour--whatever the latest thing is that lets them maintain the attack-attack-attack strategy. When that becomes outdated or untenable, they'll move onto a new one. The aim is to get their talking points into the mainstream through sheer repetition.

  33.  @arturobianco848  In the UK, our democracy is a bodge job, put together over centuries of trial and error. We know it's imperfect and constantly needs tinkering. In the US, the national mythology and reverence of the Founding Fathers means the system doesn't get updated, obsolete and exploitable traditions don't get patched, and there's just generally a lot of "legacy code".

If anyone in the West rolls over and lets you keep some of what you stole, the war was a net success, and you can come back for the rest later. If botskis like you are calling for negotiations now, that means Russia fears losing more of their stolen land in the near future. We should continue to choke out the mafia state.

They saturate their latest talking point across all the airwaves to push it into mainstream discussion, targeting people who don't really follow what's happening in any detail. They want people who parrot their narratives as "just common sense" or "everyone knows" or "I heard that", without knowing that it originated in a Moscow troll farm.

  49.  @S0ulinth3machin3  In both those cases, the invaders were counting on a quick strike to grab crucial cities and force a surrender, so didn't have proper logistics set up for their armies. Russia didn't succeed in either case--the invaders failed through not planning properly and underestimating Russia's willingness to sacrifice millions of their own.
