Brave guy. Wonder who it was?

China's relationship with Russia is kind of like when your friend gets drunk and picks a fight with the biggest guy in the bar. You want to end it without him getting beaten up and while letting him keep his pride, but you're not SO invested you're going to make yourself a target as well.

@zanizone3617 Just remember--just because something's pathetic doesn't mean it can't be dangerous.

I sometimes think that this is like WW2 in another way--like then, we're 20-ish years out from another war, one sold as a glorious defence of freedom but turning out to be a bloody quagmire that nobody really won and which produced nothing except bodies and instability. So everyone becomes a bit cynical of their own governments and very anti-war. When a dictator rises, people are cynical by the propaganda of the last war, and slow to realise that maybe this guy actually is as bad as people say.

Heck, Mongolia could lay claim to a big chunk of Russia if we go back far enough. Look up what they controlled at the height of the Golden Horde.

Allowing Putin to claim anything from this war is also escalation.

@richardx6884 It seems a reasonable presumption, unless you can point to anything that Actual Ukranians have said about letting Russia steal more land, and condemning their friends and realtives to ethnic cleansing?

Putin triggered this event. Not one other person in the world.

Leading a country is stressful at the best of times. Look at Barack Obama and Tony Blair before and after they were in office. And in Ukraine, it has not been the best of times.

"The good news is, Putin survived the assassination attempt. The bad news is, he lost one of his arms."
