  4. It's easy if you realise that the vision of America that the Republicans are pushing towards right this minute would look a lot like Russia. Strongman president-for-life who runs a cult of personality around himself, nationalism and constant statements about needing to defend the borders against the Angle-Saxons / Mexicans, a tame population who never votes in an inconvenient way and who are kept tame with police brutality, one ethnic group favoured over the others, a state religion that approves whatever the government is doing, a 24/7 media diet of biased outrage, the super-rich with free reign to stuff their pockets in return for political support...oh, and rabid hate of LGBT+ people. You can see the early stages of every single one of those traits if you look at the Republican fringe.

  5. Did you know the term "mainstream media", which was biased and not giving you the whole truth, was pioneered by Josef Goebbels? If you could give an example, and proof that nobody's covering it, that'd be great, but I think it's more likely that whatever you think they "won't cover" is an insubstantial conspiracy theory or piece of Russian / Trumplican propaganda.

  9.  @JakeBroe  Probably because after Russia loses, he would have suddenly never spoken of it again beyond insinuating he was vaguely pro-Ukraine and any allegations that he wasn't were a librul smear job. Then he'd distract by moving on to bashing trans people or some other strawman. Part of the far-right mindset is that whatever you're saying right now has always been your stance. Conservatives don't really notice when their leaders are blatant and raving hypocrites.

  13. Oh, Russia knows how to appeal to the left as well. There's no shortage of "tankies" who are so anti-US that they'll support anyone who isn't America, and who blame Ukraine for continuing the war / NATO for expanding.

For conservatives, a lot of them envy Russia--rampant Make X Great Again nationalism, pure hate for LGBT+ people and other easy targets, a tame state religion that endorses whatever the government is doing right now, a cowed population who "don't care about politics", and the super-rich given free reign to loot and plunder as they like. All with a macho strongman at the centre of it all. But in fairness, there are a sad number of left-wing "tankies" who hate war on principle and want to take whatever path stops the war fastest (no matter how injust or dangersou), or who simply take whatever side the US is not on.
