  4. Worth noting that for all it gets invoked as an example of gung-ho Murican patriotism, the original "Red Dawn" (we don't talk about the remake) was quite a grounded and sombre story that played up how much being a guerilla SUCKS, no matter how righteous your cause is.

  5. Indeed. If we roll over to Putin's ultimatums, we tell the world that the rule of law is dead, and we're back the the archaic model of "I can do what I want because I've got the bigger army". If we give into nuclear blackmail, we tell every tinpot dictator around the world that getting some nukes lets you bully your neighbours with impunity.

It's the Big Lie theory--make the lie so bare-faced and outrageous that nobody has a rebuttal for it, and it might convince people who don't know much about the topic (they're speaking with such confidence it must be true, right?) Mixed in with a sprinkle of Goebbel's maxim of always accusing the enemy of whatever you're guilty of.

  12. It's not designed to be scrutinised, it's designed to be endlessly repeated, and filter into the mainstream (as part of the "US proxy war" narrative) through sheer weight of repetition. The target is people who don't really follow the news but have a vaguely tankie "all war is bad, peace is always better" mentality.

  20. It's really worth remembering that this is how Russia works. They saturate their latest talking point across all the airwaves to push it into mainstream discussion, targeting people who don't really follow what's happening in any detail. They want people who parrot their narratives as "just common sense" or "everyone knows" or "I heard that", without knowing that it originated in a Moscow troll farm.

  22.  @gppsoftware  One of the greatest psyops of all time was presenting the Cold War as "freedom vs communism" rather than "freedom vs tyranny" or "capitalism vs communism". It worked out great for the super-rich, who could paint the acquisition of wealth at all costs as being synonymous with freedom. If you wanted to form a union, regulate brutally unsafe working conditions, and not get laid off on a whim so your boss could claim a slightly bigger bonus...why, that's UN-AMERICAN SOCIALISM, you might as well hang up a picture of Lenin! The billionaires are still taking advantage of that "socialism bad" reflex to brutalise their workers today, more efficiently than ever before.
