I don't know if it was a factor, but the way it pulled the focus away from the Russians finally taking Bakhmut after so long banging their heads...seems to be really sticking in the craw of the botski brigade.

So do I, but you can't get so deeply into that utopian view that you assume that all wars are equally bad and all sides are always equally guilty. Pacifism like that gets exploited hard.

The really clever part is that they're not just debunking the Russian lies, they're doing it in a way that makes Russia look stupid. Not to mention, the timing of the raid into Russia cut short Russian smirking about Bakhmut.

For Russians, WW2 started with Operation Barbarossa and ended when the USSR single-handedly took Berlin. The notion that someone else was fighting them first, that Russia cooperated with the Nazis early on, or that Russia had any aid to defeat them does not arise.

One good thing is how much the nuclear threat has been devalued, not just from endless repetition, but also from their delivery missiles being shot down by a 30-year-old defence system.

Sun Tzu emphasised the importance of always leaving the enemy a way out. Never force them to fight to the death, and make fleeing or surrendering as attractive an option as possible.
