  2. We can't absolve ourselves of responsibility. If voters didn't indulge so irresponsibly in "they're all as bad as each other" rhetoric that gives the corrupt ones a pass against being held accountable, and consistently stopped voted for ones that offer unsustainable short-term plans, hollow nationalism and bread-and-circuses populism....then we'd improve out government considerably. There are good people in politics, but they have to limit how good they are if they want to actually get elected and get a chance to act on any good intentions.

  4.  @katiehettinger7857  Thing is, the conscripts who flung themselves into the rape and murder party....the torturers...the child stealers....or just the ones who are cheerleading Putin right now....they are all "ordinary Russian people", who will claim they were one of the good ones when the war is done (like how post-WW2, everyone claimed to have been in the resistance and never collaborated). That's something that will have to be borne in mind when dealing with any people who currently live in Russia, in the future.

  6. You might notice Russia is also obsessed with transphobia and homophobia, and regularly uses it as examples of how corrupt the West is. Prejudice and othering directed at an out-group is the thin end of the wedge that fascists use to get their foot in the door.
