It happens that people with no British lineage/heritage still feel very British because British behavioural traits suit their personality better than the expected behavioural traits of their culture of origin, there are some like that, but very few, and these few are often very patriotic and understand the culture of the country. On housing, demand drives house prices up, so a fast expanding population resulting from continuing high levels of Immigration pushes up demand (concentrated in urban areas) resulting in pauperisation. Finally, pauperisation leads to the necessity for more public spending to support an ever growing number of "mouths to feed". This in itself is a hellish spiral. And now the best bit, economic prosperity is only possible if there is trust between the members of a society, or if there is law & order. You don't build a prosperous society by bringing in people with various different cultures who have little to no interest in integrating, this will ultimately create friction that can only damage an economy.

The issue with the Leave campaign, and the reason I could not get behind it, was that its aims were unclear and too disparate. As the leave campaign did not put out a clear post-EU roadmap, people voted to leave the EU for very different reasons. Frankly, the people who voted to leave the EU thinking it would reduce immigration from the third world were quite dumb on this occasion. Vote Leave's Global Britain slogan raised the alarm bells for me.

Halting immigration is not enough to tackle the issue. Changing domestic laws is essential. Given that Muslims in this country are much more prolific having children compared to the rest of the population, the most important reform is that of citizenship laws with the abolishment of ius soli.

  847.  @billw7000  we would still be having large numbers of EU citizens coming to the UK, but mainly because of our overly liberal system, nothing else. The only thing brexit has done on immigration is to put a Hungarian citizen on a level playing field with an Iraqi citizen when coming to the UK, to give you an example. Take the immigration statistics, there has been a substitution effect since 2016 with immigration levels remaining quite stable. Well, I for one enjoyed and make the most of my freedom of movement when we were part of the EU. It's a shame that I now have to be treated the same as a third world citizen if I want to move and work in Hungary. Don't you see that Hungary is in the EU because they want to give it a cultural and civilisational meaning? Why should such things escape your mind?

  848.  @billw7000  you are right, the trouble is that we will never get a government that is sincere not only about controlling immigration but also about preserving our way of life because of the two-party system. Brexit was a reaction to pro-immigration domestic policies and the pro-multiculturslism mood of the UK. However, I'm sure you are aware that there was a 'going global element to the Brexit campaign which seduced a lot of South Asians who always found it unfair that other Europeans could come here more easily than people of their own. Yes, I have worked elsewhere in Europe, and my perception was that the EU, whilst not being overly popular, was not something worth spending time on... It's not entirely true that central and Eastern European countries only joined the EU for the money, there's an underlying cultural and civilisational element to their membership. Western Europe indeed doesn't quite understand that. Britain never quite understood how to use the EU for geopolitical leverage, knowing that many Europeans speak good English and are fond of British culture... and that could be because UK domestic policies is poisoned and not working in the interests of the British people.

In fact the moment I saw Pakistani and Indian associations for brexit, I could see it coming. The end goal of brexit was to cut off our ties with the rest of Europe and go global so that a ROW immigrants would have the same entitlements as EU ones. Plus, we were always the most progressive influence in the EU, you should see what the UK Labour managed to push through the European Parliament in 2019 shortly before we left. The rest of the EU are glad to see us gone. There's no real support for an EU exit in other countries, they know the perks outweigh the annoying progressive bolox that comes out of the EU institutions, and they know how to tell the EU where to stick it. The EU is no threat, it's under orders from the UN and the rest.
