 @asongforsimeon4310 there's a downside to everything, the downside of societies valuing individual rights over the group is selfishness, apathy and atomisation.

@shelleyphilcox4743 while you are not wrong, I was referring more to a downside at the level of the individual rather than at the institutional or governmental level. Notice that societies where individual freedoms are valued over those of the group, the onus is on the institutions/governments to take care of each and every individual. With the advent of the "human rights" paradigm and the nanny state, the downside is that some people have become self-entitled, indifferent to their fellow citizens, and thus politically illiterate.
