  4. What is your definition of "escape"? If an object is not "captured" by the black hole, does it not escape? Someone mentioned using English fast and loose, it seems inadequate for the task.

  5. Not a very good list of ideas, selectively applied. We will need some better thinking than this to do the job. Rationally, bombarding Mars with asteroids would build up its mass in order to hold in an atmosphere and could increase its rotation. Check out the distance and energy to do this. Approximately one Earth mass is needed to hold H2 molecules on the planet else all the liquid water will disappear. We will need to colonize the planets or moons farther out than Earth first because the Sun will change over time.
