No, the record is for the first powered flight under control, heaver than air plane.

@Vincent A. H. Steed Everyone wants to say that, it simply isn't true.
4
@patrichausammann You are completely wrong, the Wright brothers documented their work, read it.
3
@mahbriggs The helicopter was rejected by Russia, so Sikorsky went to America.
3
There is some truth to what you say, there is a smaller truth to what was said, mostly for sensationalism.
2
They were secretive because they knew how people are, like you.
2
Conspiracy theories always sound like a stupid idea to me.
2
The Wright airplanes can be copied by anyone and have been, they fly well in their original form without any modern modifications.
2
Have at it.
2
That is well known to be completely wrong.
2
@jannespor8178 The original Wright Flyer is hanging in Washington D.C., I have seen it twice. It was kept and preserved by a competitor of the Wrights.
2
Don't forget this changed ship propeller design as well.
2
@DoubleMrE Curtis did not invent anything. He changed the design to get around the patents.
2
@DK-vx5co Copies of the Wright Flyer have flown, they are documented.
2
@surfpanther The original Wright Flyer was capable of 20 min of sustained flight, which it did.
2
The original pictures were documented by the person who took them for the Wrights.
2
@jannespor8178 So the whole point is moot.
2
The Wrights documented their work because they knew how important it was.
1
@michaellovetere8033 They were paid shills.
1
@doughamblett5204 The Wrights did also, so what?
1
Quite correct, and I am one proud human. Yes, it matters to those who would steal for their own gain.
1
@deezynar They didn't notice because he died in 1809, so could not have patented anything in 1868.
1
@jessicaarverne1181 It did not fly.
1
@martinishot Changed ship propellers too.
1
@furripupau He had no wind tunnel.
1
@furripupau That would be a day late and a dollar short.
1
@darkgreenambulance Smart man, he would have killed himself.
1
No.
1
@michaellovetere8033 Was that on the first flight or the 30th?
1
@cardinalRG Just another wanna-be.
1
@cardinalRG Correct, they never did it first, only later could someone successfully fly once they stole the Wrights designs.
1
Everyone wanted to claim first flight, but the Wright Brothers were first by the historical record and no after the fact digging through records that were faked in the past will change that. It is a continuous process to learn to fly and the Wrights have the only documented record of their achievements, everyone else is simply lying.
