  2. Nothing in the US is solidly red, sorry to say. Californians will trash several western states as they flee, and stupid will kill the rest of the remaining red areas. Sometimes it just takes one big college town to flip a low population state blue. Its sad.   6. If the US were to implement a 15 percent across the board flat tax it would indicate more than just a tax rate change. It would mean there was a change in the mentality of the people, and that this change in mentality had resulted in a substantial change in the government and bureaucracy (one that I would support wholeheartedly). So it would make me want to stay not just for the money, the money would actually be the least of it.

  8. In the West you generally aren't the customer for healthcare, some third party is. Sometimes more than one third party (in the US its an insurance company + government). Therefore its expensive and it sucks. Paying directly for services is the only way to be treated best.

  9. I think the US has some serious social and structural issues, but in no way do I feel its passport is equivalent to Rwanda LOL. I get that it sounds good in a vid but come on. I have yet to travel as a St Lucian, but the US passport beats my other one (Argentina) by miles. My issue with the US isn't that it has a bad travel document, its the rest of the baggage.

  10. Uruguay is closing its borders to everyone - including residents and passport holders, read that again because its crazy - until Jan 10. Just a little window into where we are going as a planet. St Lucia's passport is looking better and better, we all need travel documents from places that are small and not super reactionary and/or organized about stuff. Closing borders to passport holders is really concerning.

  15. I had an office (a branch office sort of thing) in NYC and it was constant fighting with the state. The last straw was when THEY made an error in our payroll taxes and sent us a fine. They claimed to fix their error, and sent a letter to that effect. About a year later they sent us an invoice for 1.8 million dollars in "fees and fines and penalties" for the same error (their error, not mine). This took another year of time (MY TIME) to clear up. The result was that I decided to close the NY branch. I would do business in hell before NY. Hawaii (where every "aloha" and "mahalo" you get costs $50 bucks) and California were benign compared to NY for me.

  18. We had stagnation under Obama, with a massive increase in regulations. And we nationalized 1/6th of the economy. I agree with Andrew that I don't care about who the president is, but I do care about what the electorate coughs up because it tells me who the voters are. Biden is a big sign for me, if he can be elected this is not a place that will prosper in the future. People are easy to manipulate, poorly educated in government schools, and collectivist minded. Not for me. People here in DC cheered when Biden was elected, because he is just a figurehead for the swamp. If you like the swamp fine, apparently many do, but lets not lie about history. That is dangerous.

  19. I would add that you request all of your necessary documents today, I am working on paperwork for my American husband and its a bit of a mess right now. The times to receive birth certificates, marriage certificates and police background reports can be long depending on where they are (it goes by the state in the US, so you may have to contact multiple municipalities, none of which will treat you best). Then there is the apostille process - but get a few copies of your personal documents - it will save time once you call Nomad Capitalist to help you move abroad.

  22. Uruguay is basically Argentina's Canada (with various tax benefits designed for people from Argentina and beaches). We all talk about it like Americans talk about Canada. So clean! I'm moving there if this place (Argentina) doesn't shape up! (PS Argentina is not shaping up). Every once in a while a whole bunch of gringos become obsessed with the place for some reason (Travel and Leisure magazine spreads of Jose Ignacio maybe), and they all threaten to move there. I have residency in Uruguay, but the country locked us all out during the virus wave 1, including passport holders. You needed a special permission to come and go from your own country, sort of like Canada and Australia. So yeah, Uruguay, its a little like the CUNA countries Andrew hates as far as rules and paperwork. And Uruguayans are organized and pretty low on the corruption scale so you will be doing the paperwork and following the rules. Unlike some other locales which seem worse but where small gratuities fix everything.

  27. This channel seems to not want to factor pandemic restrictions in as part of the overall ranking of a place, which makes me watch the channel less to be honest. Being locked in your house and shaken down for QR codes while enjoying a coffee are a huge lifestyle issues. For instance, Mexico - the borders are open with no questions, but once you are inside there are tons of ridiculous health security theater measures everywhere. I just downranked it for myself based on this - I don't want to be sprayed with weird stuff entering every store, restaurant or hotel. These things DO impact "where you are treated best".

  32.  @craigb3154  I would not retire in Argentina, but its great to visit as a tourist. Mendoza is a medium sized city, nowhere near as large as Buenos Aires. It is clean, well laid out, and has a great vibe. it is located in the heart of the Malbec wine region, so it is fairly sophisticated as wine tourism brings an international crowd. Food & wine scene is great. Again, my opinion, visit Argentina. Do not get too attached to it as an investment/business/retirement permanent destination. Its unstable, its government is insane, its Covid lockdown situation was extremely harsh and you really cant imagine what will happen next, but you know it won't be good.

  33. Aside from a**holes, who exist everywhere, I have found Americans to be exceptionally decent and friendly during my time in the States. Skeevy dudes tried to mug my husband about 14 times in Barcelona (I have no idea why, he's a Marine so it never worked out for the muggers lol), but I don't project that onto the average Spaniard. I get that its fashionable to hate the US, especially amongst the US "elites", but zzzz, enough already. The country has structural problems and about half of the voters are dumb and do whatever they last heard on MSNBC, that is the real issue. Not the average person.

Obviously there are exceptions, but I speak a couple languages out loud in public, I am foreign, and I've never had anyone call 911 :) I just think its fashionable to claim some sort of discrimination or unpleasantness based on race or ethnicity these days, more's the pity.

Look at Thailand - women hot, men much less so (sorry, I am just being honest, we spent tons of time there, eye candy galore for my husband, nothing for me other than marveling at the lady-boys who are really a work of art). Spain is a country with hotness parity. But lets be honest, men and women use different criteria for selecting mates, and visual hotness is more important to men. Women like money.

It is the same where I live in the US if you die with any unpaid bills or (especially) taxes. It really hits people with dementia hard because they literally forget to pay their taxes and other bills years on year, even if they have assets including cash assets. The government takes it when they die. A lawyer can help, but it is often more expensive to hire one than a small estate is worth. This is one place where Argentina is better than the UK/US, the families generally stay closer and more involved in each other's lives, and you have to be, especially with dementia. This level of involvement is just not the custom in the same way where I live now.

  41. I think American men generally aim to please and are confused as to what women want, probably because of 50 years of screaming, angry feminism. I met my husband in the USA and he is one of the good ones, but I had to wade through an ocean of weak man-buns on the way. I am from South America where being a manly man can go too far, especially among the less educated people. I am happy with a balance, the US is not a balance, the women want to be men and the men are confused. My husband has a military background, I think that helps.

Uruguay is owned by Brazil & Argentina, I agree that Argentine people should get a second passport with more distance (mine is from the USA LOL, but its better than Argentina). Ultimately Uruguay will do what Argentina says, your apartment in Punta del Este will be taxed by Cristina if she wants to do it.
