People keep arguing with me about this very obvious point. Visit Argentina (enjoy the random quarantines and checkpoints!) but seriously, if you want to invest in anything or become a citizen there you are nuts. N U T S. The corruption and nonsense is at every level.

And like a crazy ex-girlfriend, you just cant get rid of your Argentina once you allow it into your life.

@diogenescasares4294 100% they wanted a bribe. Just take the ferry to Montevideo every 3 months for the rest of your life, stamp in, stamp out. Can take less than one day haha.

You will not be treated best as a citizen of Argentina. Yeah, yeah, I am a broken record. But its true.

@toddjohnsen7996 Yeah Argentina (and Uruguay) is crazy with various quarantines lately, but I know some Aussies and Kiwis who have lived in Argentina for years using the "Buquebus" visa plan. Ferry to Colonia every 3 months. But its a new world now with the virus and borders close randomly.

@michaelreid8857 Final quick example, you are an adult do as you please. Get a passport from Argentina if you want. I HIGHLY recommend you enjoy the country as a tourist. My uncle bought a rundown house in Mendoza to fix it up as sort of a passion project. He is an attorney, he had an attorney and a notary (its an important job in Argentina not just a stamp). A year after he bought it the government fined him thousands of dollars (zillions of pesos) because (they said) the property had various tax liens and levies against it. That were of course undocumented prior to the sale, but now are due, to the government. with interest, fees & fines still being added daily. Also do some research into the really nasty quarantine the country just had. This virus is the new normal, and the government of Argentina uses it to put everyone in prison whenever they like. Either a real prison if you go out and get arrested for being outside, or the prison called your house. There is zero reason to become a citizen of Argentina. Just renew your tourist visa forever by taking the ferry to Colonia every 3 months.

@michaelreid8857 I am a US citizen as well. Its not an issue of travel. My issue is how Argentina treats its own citizens.

@michaelreid8857 You can "obstante" the "laws" by simply driving on a highway or trying to run a business. or daring to own a house. Come over for a beer, I can tell you tons of stories about the place, my family runs a vineyard. Dealing with the government is like dealing with the mafia, only its more powerful. The expat experience in Argentina is fine, great even. Become a citizen and get substantial assets there? Not unless you are an idiot.

@mobileandroid5299 You can throw away the passport, or not renew it (my plan) but you cannot renounce it. So why add that hassle to your nomad life. Wealth tax forever, whee! Kircher forever, whee!

@toddjohnsen7996 I would be less than 100% confident in Argentine engineering, let them stick to lawyering. I get nervous near that big hydrodam near Malargue, you know its coming down someday with a bang. =)

@ChanaElisheva It would be my plan Z-, but I am biased. And you can never get rid of it.
