  3. Stupid voters re-elect terrible politicians who allow their constituents to trash the city. The only businesses that can survive are crony businesses, in bed with the government. This hotel owner still has to pay all the huge Chicago taxes, of which there are tons (there are even special Chicago only taxes). If that is not a big chain hotel the owner may actually need the money. But again, given the electorate and what they just replaced Lightfoot with I have little hope. The tax base will eventually completely fail so these blue cities and states will fail, and then want bailouts, which they will probably get. So not just a local issue.
