The other problem is that Putin isn't under threat from Ukraine or West even if Russia loses this war. Short of successful counter invasion of Russia, West will not kill him. And that ain't happening. The only threats to his life are his health, military and the people.

So far, Russians fought Ukraine that is being supplied weapons by the West, and Russia been doing terrible job at that. The moment professional NATo army shows up in Ukraine, it will be over for Russia. Say what you will about yanks, but they are masters of logistics, something Russia clearly lacks.

It was Russian attack and atrocities it commited in Ukraine along with threats towards them that are pushing Finland and Sweden into joining NATO. USA doesn't need to do jack when Russia constantly reminds everyone why we need NATO.

Taiwan is where China's elected government fortified during PRC revolution and communists were never able to take the island, thus never actually completely succeeded in their revolution. Hence why we have two countries now instead of one. And whit China is a secession state.

Even at first stage of WW2 we had what is known as phony war where allies barely done anything. It wasn't until Churchill came to power after Hitler invaded Norway that things took off. We see the repeat of the same right now, just with bonus of sanctions placed.

  38.  @TheMcLaughlincrew  In the war of attrition, Ukraine is more likely to win. You seem to forget that Ukraine isn't fighting using just it's own recourses. It's being supported by West as opposed to Russia that has some of its money frozen and under heavy economic sanctions. Wars are also always more favourable for defenders. Top it off with the fact that Putin is losing info war even in Russia and things are only getting worse. Yes, Nuking Ukraine would be easy way to victory, but it sure would come at great cost. At that point, even China won't be able to support Putin.

My original post wasn't that West believed Russian plan was to take whole of Ukraine or even Kyiv but rather that Russian was strong enough to take Kyiv within a week along with whole Ukraine. Kinda makes you look silly for trying to put words into my posts that don't exist. As for Russia believing it can take Kyiv and Ukraine, it started war with full Ukraine invasion and attempted to encircle Kyiv, one of their goals was also "denazification" of Ukraine. The Russian newspapers also posted articles on Saturday of the first week of invasion early in the morning about Russian victory and Russia creating a new world order but deleted them as it became obvious Russia is no where close to wining. We known of this because it was reported in several medias of both main and none mainstream variety. Any more silly comments?

Seems serbs had been minority of population for a long time. Even in 1890 the area was 70% muslim, nearly entirely of albanian descent. 2004 was a sad time indeed. We can thank journalists for riling up people which led to eventual violence. And Kosovo judicary system investigated and convicted those they found responsible for the whole affair. UN security council is irrelevant as it's pretty much made up out of enemies with their own agenda. Serbian ally russia would have never allowed intervention and is fine with ethnic cleansing of muslims. Russia has a long history of ethnic cleansing.

Putin likes his image as a strong man and if he pulls all his forces against Ukraine, going as far as use even nukes, it will be massive diplomatic loss for Russia as everyone will know that if Russia has to use full force to take Ukraine, or even nukes, than it's a military joke. I would also need to pay a grand to be allowed to take the citizenship test which from what I hear does include language and history test. Same in US. About the only nations who don't probably do it, would be third world countries.

At least EU commission get chosen by EU council and elected by EU parliament. House of lords isn't elected by anyone and unless you part of majority in your constitution, your vote is worthless. Lithuanian requirements have nothing to do with stopping russian from becoming citizens as they apply to people from any country. When Lithuania eliminated russian from government forms, I for my self wasn't bothered since country ensured that even ethnic russians were taught Lithuanian. But I did find it silly that there were no exceptions for elderly who never once were pushed or encouraged to learn the language. Good thing mom as lithuanian could go to government offices with my grandparents from father's side when they needed to fill out something, and that most public workers were understanding of the situation. The countries are not asked to adapt to those who are moving in ether, they are asked not to throw people, in some cases citizens into deep end without first teaching them to swim when earlier policy was that not swimming was alright.

US wanted Bin Laden who attacked US and were terrorist organisation. Azov came to prominence because of Russia creating separatists and causing problems in Crimea, Donbas and Luhansk. Putin used them as one of pretexts for his land grab in Ukraine and because they were major thorn in his plans. Nazis also exist in Russia and in every country. I do find there being massive difference between US that got attacked by Al Qaeda in massive terrorist attack and Azov which supposedly abandoned their neo Nazi roots and were fighting Russian sponsored separatists.   281.  @annan7728  NATO refused Ukraine because it's mid invasion. NATO can't accept a member that is currently being invaded. But had Ukraine managed to join much much sooner, Russia wouldn't have the balls to invade. Few countries pay in rubles, most continue in dollars and some even stopped buying oil thanks to Russia cutting them off and they are doing fine. Europe is in fact accelerating stopping it's dependence on Russian gas and oil. Ukraine isn't used. Ukraine is being provided with gear to defend it self against Russian invasion. If Ukrainians wanted to surrender, they would have done so. Granted there isn't much reason because as it turns out, Russian military is pretty pathetic. Russia already failed it's plan A, and is having problems with plan B. Again, reminder that Fascist Russia attacked Ukraine and is jailing anyone who even mentions war, or throwing fines at them.

  306. Alliance building 101. Works wonders in games. I occasionally play Stellaris. The game lets you be as benevolent or as evil Empire as you wish to be. I in one of my evil campaigns had litterally everyone consider me a threat in 4 digit numbers, with even newly formed empires fearing me. Galaxy had three major alliances working against me. The only thing that saved me was that they worked against each other as well. In one situation, I had an alliance declare war on me. One of their members was bordering me, the other two were another empire across from me. Because they couldn't pass that empire borders without permission, the two empires couldn't get to me while I was erasing every border planet of their ally off the face of the galaxy. How bad was I? Let's put this into perspective. When I finally managed to get an access to my enemies side of the galaxy by securing one of their systems with a habitable planet in it. Upon losing planetary invasion to my forces, the citizens of the planet chose to detonate the core of their planet in one final opposition of me.

  313. Not all ethnic russians are the same. I can beat your anecdotal evidence by pointing out that I am a cross between two ethnicities. Mom Lithuanian while dad was ethnic Russian with Lithuanian citizenship and born in Lithuania. Both had a mixture of russian and Lithuanian friends and socialised just fine. They also voted for politicians who at least pretended to support their interests, instead of Russian ones.
