Successor? Hard to say. Direct descendant? Most certainly.

So, only because of strong ties.

He can't conquer Ukraine. Finland is beyond him. Especially as it joins NATO.

@Newyork-uk5xy Spain is no longer an empire. You need to have empire to be considered one and spanish long since lost it. Being Kingdom doesn't make one an empire, you have a king, not an emperor. There is no legitimate owner of the title of Roman Empire anymore. Just pretenders, plus Italians who come the closest.

@Newyork-uk5xy Theory word here WERE. Britain was an Empire once, Russia was one once, Germany was one once. What Spain was is irrelevant. I also read about that event. He sold his claim to the title but he didn't have the title. Thus Spain isn't inheritor of Roman Empire or it's continuation, it simply has a weak claim to it that is weaker than most of others. Russia has more right to the Roman Empire title than Spain. The only one having less right would be Ottomans/turkey. Prince Henry selling his claim on British throne won't make the buyer British king once Charles 3 drops dead.

@Newyork-uk5xy right, sorry. He left it in his last will and testament. Also, he didn't give away the title because he didn't have the title to begin with. The title of Emperor of Rome was already gone because Rome split into even smaller chunks. He gave away the title to the chunk he owned and the claim to the extinct title. Claim they never even pushed from what I heard. Of course you get the last paragraph. Don't play coy. I mentioned a royal family that is actually well known through the world, unlike the Spanish one.

@Newyork-uk5xy He didn't have the title of Emperor of Rome. He wasn't even an emperor of Byzantine. Constantine XI, his uncle was the last emperor. All Andreas had was a claim to the title due to being related to the empirial family. So how he could have given title he didn't have? Checked prior message, sorry. Bloody autocorrect changed from Harry to Henry for some reason.

@Newyork-uk5xy that is exactly my point. He didn't have the title to give. He passed the claim to the title. There were different rules of succession historically. Any way, my point still stands. He didn't have the title it self, just claim to the title. The claim needs to be enforced and Spain lacks the power to enforce it and thus is no different from other pretenders to the title. The closest inheritors of the Roman Empire are Italians as they are direct descendants. Though whether that allows them to claim to be continuation of it is under question. Harry is related to king Charles the 3rd and has a claim on the crown. Being the Heir and Claimant are two different things. Not to mention that in Andreas time Rome no longer existed but fell apart into smaller nations like what happened to Kyivan Rus.

@biftaylor3939 I? You don't even know my nationality to make that accusation.

@biftaylor3939 What is a western?

@biftaylor3939 here a little tip since I'm guessing due to the world westerner, you your self are from one of third world countries, likely Russia. They like to throw that term around. Also your strong dislike at me joining on questioning russian claim to the title and nothing else to prove they deserve it beyond marriage to one of the princesses at one point. So for the tip. If you plan to post something online, be prepared for others to get into topic you proposed. If you don't want to be challenged, don't post.

@mappingshaman5280 You live pretending to have been great empire. In reality all you could do is go bully tribals because you had no chance against your peers in land combat.
1
Does he though? Spain isn't an empire.
1
@Newyork-uk5xy Spanish are not even Romans. Just a nation that was conquered by Romans and civilised.
