  4. I hope this thing brings AMD back from the grave. They never really were that bad, but they never understood the market either, and their drivers are TERRIBLE. Hopefully this is a sign of them getting back on track to kick Intel's monopolistic ass. Or next we'll have CPUs start at 300€ for the shittiest model and only go up from there. Hopefully their GPU department can also get their head out of their ass and start making proper drivers that don't cause BSODs every second update, to do the same with Nvidia. Monopoly sucks. Every bit they do to ramp up the competition is great, and incidently I do need a CPU upgrade from my old i7-2600K. Just worried about cooling here. AMD have always been hot, but I really dont want to deal with water cooling. Fans are a lot simplier and easier to maintain.

I can't even begin to imagine how hard it must have been to not only understand it all to a point when you can explain this to others, but to also accurately animate all of this.

  9. I think EU has figured out how to solve traffic for a while now. It's this revolutionary invention called rail. Turns out if you don't build giant freaking roads in the middle of cities, have tram, bus and cycle lanes, focus on rail transport (trams, metro, trains) which makes public transport pleasant to use suddenly people aren't so eager to use cars for any trip over 100m. It also turns out that all these transportation modes are electric and emission-free. Shocking, right? My point is: governments cause traffic jams, not people. By building infrastructure for their corporate lobbyists instead of citizens who vote for them.

  11. Scientific progress works kind of like baloon. We build up pressure with a ton of research over the years that shows clearly what we know, what we don't and what is in demand. Then when the pressure is enough usually one science team makes a breakthrough and gets a lot of credit. But in reality when such breakthrough becomes possible, who exactly does it becomes more a matter of chance rather than particular scientist's genius. All science is important. Except the fake one.

Ну а Брежнев добил его когда свернул модернизационные реформы. - СССР никогда не работал на народ. Народ всегда был в СССР расходным материалом. Человек - это не нефть. Он приносит больше всего пользы когда ему дают определённую свободу действий, награждают творчество. Когда государство ограничивает человека, унижает его - он первращается в то, что сейчас поддерживает путина и его войну. В раба. В скот. И в США и во Франции и даже после свержения Мао в Китае - творчество, креативность, автономия: всё это поддерживалось государством, а не давилось. СССР работал на номенклатуру и идеологию, а не на человека. То что сейчас происходит - происходит изза поколения сломанного в СССР. Путин его развратил и снабдил ресурсами. Но не он его сломал.

По крайней мере я всё чаще слышу от людей сомнение к правдивости картины, многие говорят что "вот вернутся люди, они расскажут правду". Ну вот и расскажут. Интернет видео, звонок - 10 лет зомбирования этим не перебить. Хотя я конечно надеюсь что скинем фюрера раньше, но прессуют просто адски. Буквально у каждого есть кто-то к кому "приходили" или штрафовали, в лучшем случае профилактическую беседу проводили на работе. Не представляю откуда вообще столько полицаев взяли. Мы работаем над этим, но очень много путлер нефтедолларов накопил за 10 лет. Это замедляет работу.

  42.  @matsv201  You are forgetting a lot of variables. First - acceleration. You have to accelerate to 5000 kph and then back down to 0. With civilians onboard, so you can't just yolo the engines to full power. Second - 5000kph is Mach 4, which means much higher structural requirements, and huge maintenance costs. Third - sonic boom is basically impossible to avoid or effectively disperse at those speeds in the atmosphere (not to mention that fuel efficiency of any engine drops exponentially as speed rises). Orbital travel avoids this because you just yeet people into the orbit, then drop them back down, adding earth's rotation to effective speed of travel. However while space companies have made huge progress with re-using rockets, there's still a huge issue with fuel efficiency of rockets. As for planes, I don't really see that problem ever being resolved. Even with cheap advanced materials and some way to absorb the sonic boom, the problem of acceleration/deceleration isn't really solvable in any way (unless someone reinvents physics and creates a zero-inertia drive or something).

  49.  @Bladavia  I've been in several EU countries in addition to the one I live in (Finland), and the traffic situation is more or less good in all of them from Greece to Spain and Germany. Of course saying that we've "solved" traffic is an exaggeration (I think people understand that), but it's orders of magnitude better here than in USA currently and moving in the right direction (tram and rail networks being built up to replace buses, interception parking lots being established, smart city planning). The point is that cars will not solve traffic. Ever. No matter how smart they are, it's mathematically impossible to comfortably accommodate the levels of transportation required in modern society with private transport. It's money that ends up in some billionaire's pocket without benefiting anybody else.

Распространение адекватных ценностей и освещение адекватной политики благодаря таким людям как Кац, Шульман или Ходорковский (который обладает таким-же опытом как Навальный, только в два раз больше) было бы и дальше. В пространных рассуждениях о параллелях между древнегреческой философией и современной Россией, трудно отследить каким именно принципам следовал Навальный, которые делают его экстремальным примером для подражаения. Всю свою политическую карьеру его структуры вели войну со всеми. Для них что Ходорковский, что Кац, что, на самом деле, и Дунцова (хотя они публично это не признают) - такие-же враги что и путин. Их цель это власть, и их метод - популизм. Как такие люди могли бы "сшить воедино" какие-то лоскуты? Хотелось бы задать автору такой вопрос - кто больше способствует объединению российского общества: тот, кто чередует красивые речи из карцера с рассуждениями о том как он ненавидит Каца/Ходорковского/Любого другого независимого политика который не спешит присягнуть ему на верность, или те, кто освещает, делится своей аудиторией и автортетом с ячейками гражданского общества и помогает адекватной политической деятельностю, вроде кампании Надеждина или партии Рассвет, Екатерины Дунцовой? Кто больший добродетель -- тот кто рассказывает о том как именно путин ворует, тем кто итак знает что он ворует, или те кто даёт людям гранты для получения образования, отстаивает позиции о поддержке российского общества за рубежом (вдова Навального стала это делать только после его смерти) и просто говорит своей аудитории о важности взаимной поддержки, а не о своей исключительности и отвратитетльности всех остальных? Ну и не стоит забывать, что Нельсон Мандела хоть и стал президентом, устойчивых институтов построить не смог. Объединить ЮАР он тоже не смог. За красивыми речами вряд-ли стояло достаточно того критикуемого прагматизма и госуправленческого таланта чтобы выстроить систему, которая бы не развалилась со смертью героя. Что мы и видим по нынешнему состоянию ЮАР. Здоровому обществу не нужны герои. Нужны ли герои больному обществу чтобы стать здоровым? Однозначного ответа на этот вопрос нет. Are you sure the low fertility is a result of women choosing to have fewer children, and not families simply being forced to have fewer kids because they cannot afford to accomodate them due to the never-ending housing crisis driven by ever-accelerating income inequality? From my perspective as a middle income "salary man", the global financial system and political populism seem to be the main cause of why we aren't able to adapt. Previously the people with power were affected by most of the same crises as the rest of us so there was consensus on how to solve issues. Now, thanks to the global financial system, the rich and powerful are exempt from effects of all but the worst disasters, because they can distribute their risk among the rest of us. I think we should vote for politicians that extend terms of elected leaders and remove re-election, so that the people we elect are not afraid to piss off the rich and actually implement the bold and global changes for the benefit of humanity as a whole, instead of the ultra-rich that sponsor their next re-election.

In fact most anti-personel mines nowadays do, not just from US. The authors have left it out on purpose, which makes you wonder what else they left out. While it's pretty obvious to everyone that putin is a terrorist and his war, intended to "increase political ratings" is insanely cruel and unjust. We don't need engineering channels to understand that. And this channel used to be an engineering channel focused on education, not propaganda. I have been subscribed to it for many years and have come to expect objective coverage, with all important facts covered. If I wanted propaganda, I would subscribe to The Infographic Show. Whether to end wars, destroy dictatorships or advance civilization in some other way, we can only rely on scientific method and critical thinking, that takes into account all facts, regardless of the opinions. This is not the first such detail I notice in these videos. I have a suggestion for a video btw: can you explain CPU metrics and throttling on container systems? There is lots of misunderstanding especially with Kubernetes resources like "millicores" about what it actually means and how the usage is calculated and when throttling is performed on Kubernetes nodes and how. Also what are the implications of these metrics and quotas on CPUs with many cores and the difference between nodes running on hypervisor vs bare metal. It's a hole can of worms of course, but I think just starting with the quotas and throttling would already clear things up a lot.

Мне кажется что политик проигрывает дебаты когда после них замеряется его рейтинг (третьей независимой стороной) и смотрят чей рейтинг вырос относительно другого и насколько. Опросы в аудитории канала который проводит дебаты вряд-ли можно отнести к таким замерам, т.к. в них мало кто учавствует да и учавствуют в них скорее всего те, кто уже придерживался какой-то стороны. Но в целом я считаю что когнитивные искажения и манипуляции тут скорее следствие, а не причина. Просто ФБК -- большевики, а Кац настоящий последовательный демократ.   83. Really good content, as always. You can also add a Kafka or some other streaming service to the business service, so that writes send events to the streaming system. You can then connect that streaming system to the write database as a sink, which will allow you to distribute the write loads evenly throughout the day and handle peak loads without consuming extra resources. Streaming systems like Kafka are so heavily optimized for such use-cases that even a relatively smol cluster with 3 4Gb+2CPU+100Gb should easily be able to handle these loads and have a lot of headroom if you use z-compression on the topic. As an added benefit you can perform change management on the database transparently to the user because streaming system will buffer all write operations automatically while the sink is offline. Streaming systems generally pair with a heavy read/low write system quite well.

I was gonna point out that I have a gaming laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon HD7xx series that crashes pretty much exclusively with ati-blabla.dll present in the BSOD message, and hangs programs regularly if I ever dare to enable CCC, but seeing as that is apparently not enough to be considered AMD "exclusive" to you, I am not gonna waste time convincing anyone. In my experience ATI drivers, and CCC program itself have been shit since 2006(my first ATI GPU purchase), and have only seen a marginal improvement, as well as always being worse at game-specific support, because Nvidia is more active at developer relations. But if your experience is different, then good for you, you get to spend less money on GPUs.

The real problem is that they took the research paid for by taxpayers, and abused the fuck out of it by charging inconceivable prices for something that is life-critical technology, which is in no way "luxury" so they could get ridiculously rich off the people that funded their research in the first place. If they were ethical with their business practices, no one would sue them in the first place. That's basically how US medical system works. I never hear of something like this happening in EU. Typically the new technology will get picked up by whoever could secure funding for it's usage. A patent implies a % of the profit payout to the original research team for some time or up to a certain sum. It's controlled by the government and ensures healthy competition without anyone being able to secure a ridiculous monopoly by being lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time and sleazy enough to take advantage.

My sister is a doctor at the hospital, and last week one of the patients came in after a dog attack - she was trying to defend her own dog, and the other one attacked her instead. Again - no leash. Her leg was mauled in a horrible way, gonna take months before she can walk properly again. Not to mention that even friendly behavior may be uncomfortable to people.

The city's administration obsesses over the cityscape and what do you know? All architecture looks marvelous, often you can't tell if it's been built in 2010 or 1880. Take a walk though google maps. And of course the price per square meter in those houses in city center is around €4000. With an average salary of €600/month. While more affordable buildings are in peripheral districts and they all looks great with huge towers surrounded by fields and parks, with super-wide streets and malls, giving it spacious look, despite large population density. Most issues are only with placement. Architecture as a whole is way better now than it was a 100 years ago.

  174. No, don't buy non-Pascal GPUs, it's very bad price/performance ratio. Pascal architecture is the most significant leap for GPU performance that Nvidia ever had, so I really recommend you buy a cheaper Pascal instead. Even a 1050 will be a lot more performant than 980, or even 980Ti. The structure of low latency caches and VRAM in Pascal make them much more performant even when they don't have as high clock rates.

I put it all in a HAF X case (which I don't want to swap, because it's amazing) with 4 massive 200mm intake fans and a 120mm outtake in the back, and I really don't feel like bothering with water cooling. The CPU cooler is an Arctic Cooler Freezer X, decent, not great, but the i7-2600K never goes above 70C even at full load (though I don't overclock and rarely use hyperthreading). I can get behind buying a better CPU cooler and swapping thermal paste once a year, but I really don't want to deal with water cooling if possible - too much hassle. So can i run this Ryzen at 70C or less if I don't overclock? I still have to do video rendering 1-2 times a month. Also as a suggestion: can you put CPU temperature into the overlay along with GPUs? It's also important.

That part of the video was misleading. There is more proof at least that the big band happened, than there is of it's absence or the infinity of the universe. My AMD experience was rather poor (last one was Phenom III), with very high temperatures, power consumption and uneven load distribution (more uneven than on Intel, in the same programs), but since it seems they got their shit together since then, of course I am not a fan of paying a disgustingly inflated price of an Intel CPU just because they had a monopoly and dictated prices that were in NO way ever justified. I think many people feel the same way - after all PC builders are not a stupid lot, despite the image that fanbois may create. What I also hope for, however, is that Laptop and OEM manufacturers start seeing the sense in dealing with AMD more, so that we get more better value laptops based on AMD tech also. Should give intel a sufficient kick in the teeth to get their pricing model in order. I hope they can do the same with Nvidia, but somehow I doubt it - even if they have their drivers in order now, they still are nowhere near Nvidia in terms of developer relations.

I wasn't aware they don't get new drivers, I thought they must be running somewhat recent version that comes with windows updates, but I actually don't use the laptop anymore (most of the time my sister uses to it for some school shit, or I run an ftp server on it). I might buy an AMD card when I upgrade my CPU to Ryzen and have a mobo to spare, just to see how it compares to my GTX1070. But honestly if they fixed that problem completely, Nvidia with their ridiculous prices wouldn't have market dominance already. Consumers are not that stupid, there must be a good reason for why AMD cards aren't more popular despite being cheaper and same or similar in specs.

В СССР, кстати была на удивление хорошая система высшего образования, при абсолютно поганой школьной системе (благодаря которой мы получили поколение "терпил"). И разница была именно в этом - в вузах была очень высокая конукуренция на места лекторов и не было единой программы. Высококвалифицированные кадры сами решали как и чему людей учить. И делали это в 100 раз лучше чем какой-то там далёкий "центр".

Since hydrogen explodes at much lower temperatures, it's efficiency in combustion engines should technically also be quite high (at cost of safety). And how is power drawn from hydrogen fuel cells and at what efficiency? Overall this video feels more like introduction to the topic, and I am left with more questions than I had at the start.

  195. None of this addresses the most immediate issue of battling aging, one we are already suffering - overpopulation. In many developed countries most of the population is already over 60 years. Even if we remove aging extending working life to human life, it wouldn't solve the problem. If interstellar travel like in sci-fi was possible, then sure, just go to another one of millions of planets in the galaxy to live. But it is not. We can't just send excess off-world even if we do advance to the point of being able to deliver people outside the solar system, they would be seeds of a new population, not "emigrants". Eliminating aging, without altering reproduction is about the most unsustainable thing we can possibly do. And altering reproduction has to be a concious decision, since from what I know, none of the genetic editing related to cell repair affects reproduction capability in any way.

These things are not going to be used in every situation, since what they did not mention in the video is that they are very vulnerable to stress, which limits them to small mechanisms in controlled and contained environment where forces are always predictable. They are also very vulnerable to changes in temperature and depending on material - chemical composition of their surroundings. Anything that affects the material from which it makes enough to deform it, will render the mechanism useless. That's why are used in keyboards and mice, for example, but I highly doubt that clutch disk will survive in an actual car for very long.

  213. Do people really claim RTX isn't the future though? I always thought he problem was value for money, which it undeniably is. When tessellation came out, the cards that supported it, from the new generation, had nowhere near the price jump that RTX has. On top of being a lot easier to implement in games. I think Nvidia made a mistake building hype around technology that needed 2-3 years to become ready for mass adoption. If they marketed it similar to their Titan cards - as a luxury niche card for rich people, and not as the thing we all should go and buy, nobody would be complaining.

Although users in US should be warned that AFAIK it doesn't support Google Play because of Trump's trade war. It's an amazing device, I hope it really takes off.   243. There are these things called post machines, you get a code to your phone, go grab the item with it. All over EU here, packages are not delivered to anyone's door. Everyone uses that we don't even all have cars. For the rare actual home delivery, the postman will call you to arrange a pickup when you are home. So the solution definitely exists.

One important point though is inaccurate - planned economy didn't collapse because it was slow, in fact it was much faster at making changes than market economy because macroeconomic sums could be directed at specific problems in a single party decision. It collapsed because of maths - as economy grows, it exponentially increases in complexity. In very simplified terms - to make a drill you need to plan for metalworks and motors. Drill lets you make car. Now you need to plan for metalworks and motors for the drill, but also the same thing for the car, and in addition you need to plan for fuel, electronics, roads, glass, seat fabric, etc. Cars let people travel around the country more so now you need to plan for hotels, gas stations, radio coverage on the road, parking lots. And so on. With each level the amount of complexity grows exponentially, requiring more people and resources. In a market economy each company plans only things that concern their own production, and they let the free market align these plans between the decoupled market actors by establishing a price. In a planned economy, everything has to be centrally planned, and while it can allow for huge and fast leaps in development like the "Khrushyovka" buildings or space-faring achievements of Sputnik 1 or Gagarin's journey to space, as the economy develops, the planning apparatus is unable to keep up and so the quality of the plan starts to progressively degrade, as shortcuts are taken to implement things. Add to that the awful totalitarian regime where failure to meet objectives could often be punished with death or life sentence, and we have a system that is not only unable to maintain the pace of growth, but is also encouraged to hide that fact from the higher-ups, cutting the feedback loop that might have allowed for improvement of the plan. Do that for a few decades and you get a collapsed country. Cars are an excellent, almost textbook example of how planned economy fails because it's one of the most advanced industries, incorporating almost everything else that a country's industrial machine is capable of producing. They can often be used to tell whether an economy is healthy and if it's going in the right direction.

  253. I think Docker's biggest mistake was treating Kubernetes as a competitor. They contributed so much to the ecosystem, it was only fair for them to take back. If they jumped on the bandwagon fast enough instead of trying to make Docker Swarm relevant, and produced their own Kubernetes as a Service, I am sure they would have the best one - they have the expertise. But they didn't and now the market is too saturated with Kubernetes distros and services for them to make an entry. So it's not a case of picking a wrong strategy with Open Source, its more a case of not following through fully with your picked strategy. Kubernetes was open from the start. They should have just made their own "Dockernetes" and sold it as managed service and enterprise Kubernetes distro.

At least there, most of the high-budget titles actually deliver, though the direction games with the service business model are taking is down the same rabbit hole. But as long as studios like Larian, DONTNOD, Quantic Dream and of course CD Project RED exist, there will be good high-budget games. And if not - scalability is another major advantage games have over movies. You can't scale down a movie without compromising quality. Even with accessibility of modern equipment and CGI software, the sets and lighting alone cost a fortune and require specialized skills.

Which brings me to my final point: the reason why e-voting is not widespread is because a lot of difficult-to-manipulate people, who think critically, realise how disingenuous media are and tend to consider the practicality of political promises above all else, are also the kind of people disillusioned with the current political system, and who therefore don't typically go to vote. Those people would still vote with a system like that in place and the bottom line is that politicians don't want that. Politicians aren't interested in improving things, they are mostly in it for themselves. That is why we don't have e-voting. And that is why every now and then "Russian hackers" have to appear, to "prove" how vulnerable online systems are (and for other reasons too). Because that is how news work. Осталось ФНБ, который путин копил на эту самую войну все эти годы, под прикрытием страхования пенсий (которых кстати не будет, если тут мало-ли путинисты затесались, которые моложе 50ти лет - пенсий у вас не будет никогда, скажите своему хозяину спасибо за это). Половина активов ФНБ неликвидна, а расходы на войну в несколько раз (во сколько?) увеличили скорость его опустошения (пока-пока пенсии, путин их потратил на убийство людей и подарки Ким Чир Ыну). Эти расходы не приносят никакой добавочной стоимости - это просто расходы, не вклады. То есть рост экономики они не стимулируют. Вобщем к чему я клоню - закончится кубышка, всё пойдёт по пизде. И как бы Набиуллина не транслировала выводы учёных в качестве аргументов для внедрения такой системы, она работает на путина и внедрить эту систему он ей позволил чтобы удерживать власть. Нет никаких сомнений что эта система будет применяться для увеличения контроля над коррупцией как государствообразующим процессом, а не для борьбы с ней (можно будет посмотреть кто сколько и где украл, чтобы новых Пригожиных не возникло с достаточным запасом чтобы подумать о самостоятельных решениях) и самое главное - для исключения возможности финансирования революционных ячеек и антипутинского сопротивления. Я думаю именно последняя причина является основной почему Набиуллиной разрешили перейти в пилотную фазу сейчас. Пригожин показал что будь у тебя несколько миллиардов чтоб заплатить десятку тысяч силовиков, ты можешь снести режим и никто не будет его защищать. Ходорковский заявил что это он и будет делать. Для силового аппарата нужны огромные суммы на зарплаты силовикам и с переводом на этот цифровой рубль такие суммы отслеживать будет очень легко, т.к. договориться с банком о "маскировке" используя связи больше будет невозможно. Посмотрим как быстро их всех заставят перейти. Я уверен что для юрлиц и госучреждений это произойдёт до "выборов" 2024гг а не через "5-10 лет". Эту систему можно было бы поставить на благо стране, да. Но не при путине и не в том виде в котором она подаётся. Централизация хороша только для правил. Централизация контроля исполнения правил это всегда плохо. Блокчейн поэтому и придумали чтобы децентрализировать контроль. Если некоторые из ключевых нодов блокчейна цифрового рубля будут у всемирной торговой организации, некоторые у компаний и только часть у государства - тогда ещё ничего. Но в нынешней конфигурации все ключи от королевства у ЦБ. И какой бы гениальной не была Набиуллина, ничего хорошего это стране не сулит при таком подходе, даже при демократическом правительстве. Хотя думаю Набиуллина это понимает и может перевести систему в децентрализованный формат. Только вот проблема - хоть сама Набиуллина и не совершала военных преступлений и не воровала миллиарды, она прочно ассоциирована в систему и когда режим сам себя сожрёт, что он сейчас активно делает, она уйдёт вместе с ним. Хорошо если не в лагерь. А вторую такую мы вряд-ли найдём. Так что в целом я не вижу у этой системы особых перспектив.

В целом по графикам судя как-то не похоже чтобы общее потребление снижалось, максимум на плато вышло, но энегетический и транспортный сектора имеют высокую инерцию, так что в принципе если сделать анализ строящихся мощностей и изменений в транспортных системах, можно было бы спрогнозировать тенденцию на следующие 10-15 лет. Хорошая тема для видео, на мой взгляд, особенно для наших граждан - чтоб понимали что даже после того как путин сдохнет, экспорт нефти с её бесплатным баблом всё равно никогда не вернётся на прежние позиции.

Fot example each cloud provides it's own instrumentation and there are cloud-agnostic instrumentation. There is frontend instrumentation and backend. If your code is simple and not highly performance-dependent instrumentation would only add unnecessary maintenance overhead. When it comes to system design you must do your own research to find what works best for your use-case. All I can do is provide a keyword for a field of technologies to put on your radar if it wasn't there already. Please do not build systems based on some youtube advice.

  353. I have to say I don't fully understand how this captures the energy. If this would produce more energy than it uses, that would mean that the fusion reaction, which takes a tiny fraction of a second, would need to induce current in the coils of such a magnitude as to account for all the energy spent to cause the reacton. Which, as you showed, requires ridiculous amount of capacitors just to deliver the current. So in that one pulse, the collecting coils should receive more current from the reaction than all the accelerating coils combined. Even if you use superconductors, I don't understand how you can possibly capture and even out this much current into grid-compatible reliable voltages. The wires would just melt, wouldn't they? Or the cooling would take half the output? I must be missing something...

  370. I find it really annoying that they generalize statistics in topics like these, where most people should care about local practices. Chances are if you live in Russia, you are not drinking US milk and vice versa. And farming practices differ just as much. In Finland, for example, cows have a relatively pleasant life (more pleasant than in the wild anyway) and so to around 5 million people the "torture" argument is completely false. Yet a large percentage of people are idiots, and won't think about it. And a large percentage of idiots are very loud. So they'll watch a video like this and start zealously screaming at everyone around them how diary products are evil and everyone who consumes them are evil. This in turn will cause normal people to ignore the topic entirely, and so the video ends up doing damage instead of helping in those communities. Not to mention the fact that for that one claim your sources are, there's no other word for it - garbage. One zealous region-focused article in a newspaper and one wikipedia paragraph which provides no direct evidence for your generalized claim, and indirect being based on clearly biased sources. And yet I guarantee that one claim will be what a large portion of the millions of people watching will take away. Of course you won't read this, but hey, at I've done what I could in this situation. This video is biased and it's unclear whether it will do more good than damage. I expected better from this channel.

Такие вещи хороши для объяснения социальных феноменов - например почему в России сейчас самые успешные люди - это как раз те самые вруны и мудаки (и соответсвенно быть успешным, даже если ты честный и адекватный человек, это некое клеймо у нас в стране), но в качестве рекоммендаций для выстраивания чей-то жизни, такие схемы не подходят. Exacerbating fluctuations in the market, elevating lives of some at expense of ruining lives of others. And with automation now handling these equations, the whole market is working on offloading the risk from the richest to the poorest. Every year as it gets more and more accessible, it also gets less and less profitable and riskier for anyone who doesn't have hundreds of thousands or more to invest. Wouldn't it be better if derivatives were just banned?

  382. Kafka is way overkill for that. Learned that the hard way. Only makes sense if you already have to maintain a kafka cluster or buy it as a service for something actually data-intensive. Even then, by itself Kafka is a huge pain the ass to configure and maintain. You need a management system on top of it like Confluent or Aiven, if you dont want to fiddle with its terrible CLI tools and build ACLs all day. And those cost an arm and a leg. Also Kafka rarely breaks, but when it does, it's a catastrophe. There is no good way to quickly and automatically recover a broken cluster, and it's very easy to fuck up. I can give you one example - we used a 3-DC cluster where all communication between clients as well as brokers to each other was handled by IP lists. DNS was never used. Then at some point the DNS proxy we used got busted and cluster ended up in split brain state. It was completely incomprehensible why. We had to do network packet monitoring, when we found out that even though the broker didn't use a DNS, it still had a call stack failing silently when contacting brokers on outgoing calls. So all messages coming to the broker were going fine, but all messages going out were failing after a failed DNS lookup for... something that the broker wasn't even gonna use! So other brokers thought the broker was alive and well, and the broken broker thought it was broke (i mean alone, sorry, couldn't resist), constantly trying to assign itself master since it thought the rest of the cluster was dead. Took a whole day to fix and you can imagine the damage since the whole cluster was affected... And this is far from the only example. My experience with Kafka is actually that it's distributed nature is a tool for scalability, not reliability. As far as reliability goes, it does the opposite, each new broker adds more ways for the whole cluster to break. So yeah, Kafka is powerful, about as much as a bulldozer is powerful. If you only want go to shop and back, maybe just take a regular car instead.

However you need to consider longevity of this build. My PC has cost 1400€ when I built it, but over the last 5 years I only dropped 600€ on it overall for GPU upgrades. 2000€/5 years is a good deal for being able to run most games at very high-max settings at 21:9 2560x1080 resolutions. Now is the first time I'd need to do a major upgrade and I doubt that if I would go with somethind like this, I'd get as much value long-term as I would from a 1.5K budget. At least in EU.

  392. In Finland they occasionally cut granite next to walkways using waterjets when they are building new roads or expanding old ones. It looks absolutely stunning and is smooth as marble. Unfortunately this is very rarely done, which is probably because of how long it takes and how much water and abrasive is requierd - most of the time they just explode or chop off the granite pieces that are in the way. But damn, when they use the waterjet, it's like installing a permanent art piece on the street, absolutely amazing. And because it's so smooth, the graffiti assholes don't paint on it since the paint doesn't stick and is easily removed.

Internet is getting worse now because instead of being open, everyone is being shoved into platforms behind a paywall and a login screen, which is exactly that "alternative business model". So now you can't even find anything on google anymore unless you add "reddit" at the end of the search query, which is really sad, given the path that reddit itself has taken. Early internet was also supported by ads. The difference was that each resource had it's own ad placements that were embedded into the content. Ad networks were not a thing. And websites that went overboard with embedded ads were simply abandoned, so it was a self-regulating system. Then ad networks came and they are the ones that upset this balance. When a single system can track you across your whole internet activity, of course it's not going to end well. For YT in particular it might be better for it to adopt some kind of subscription model (not as expensive as YT premium, but something like that). It would dramatically slash the userbase, reducing size of the platform and the associated expenses, while making each user more valuable so the company would be kept in check and not pull any of the BS that they've done so far. In an ideal world monopolies like YT should either not exist or be cooperatives, and not for-profit corporations, but in our world, the premium-only model might be the best choice. If anything this will free a bunch of people to do something more useful. However this is not a universal solution applicable to the whole internet and it would destroy the internet if everyone continued to do this.

In real world, that being not the world of economics, a debt (government or otherwise) is the amount of resources an entity has consumed, which said entity did not create value from equal to or greater than the original consumed amount. For example if you buy milk, don't drink all of it and then it spoils, so you have to throw the rest of it out, you increased the amount of dept by that amount of milk, which you threw out (+the package if its not recycled). Because US has imperial economy (i.e.based on war) which is inherently unsustainable and destructive(which is why empires never last), the only way to pay off US dept would be to restructure the economy. So TL;DR: if US paid off it's dept it would do so by either collapsing, like most empires, or restructuring it's entire economy into a more sustainable model, like UK or Japan. That is, if it doesn't destroy the world before it has a chance to do so.

But maker's breath did I like the interactive figures. That was the most expensive hobby of mine, that my parents financed... The paint fumes made everyone in the house feel dizzy. Unless someone invents some new magic fuel, if we have to supply all fuel for launches on Earth, any space operation will always be running on net loss. To make it sustainable you need space infrastructure - refueling stations, and those orbital hooks Kurzgesaght talked about. The first of which needs to be on the moon because it's the closest, light and has no atmosphere, so the amount of fuel to reach escape velocity from it is minor. If ships can refuel on the moon, then they can be sent to Mars and the asteroid belt to perform useful tasks that might yield some profit. Without that infrastructure, any space mission is always a net loss, and space industry will have to rely on tax money and ethusiasm.

Technologies and policies exist to make household and career compromises manageable. But the real unsolved issue is housing crisis. The wealthiest of us, who really control the world due to our complacency maintain the housing crisis for their benefit. I think the only way we can really make a dent is to forbid residential real estate from being an investment target. It must be completely prohibited. The only way to get money from real estate should be to build and sell it to people who'll live there. I don't think any other solution will work.

No rights have ever been given by the more powerful to the powerless. They are a result of groups becoming powerful enough to force others to accept their preferences. Same thing will be with robots. Squash is good if there are lots of small inconsequential changes, e.g. when debugging CI system. Rebase is good for example for cases when a teammate has updated dependencies and you are adding your feature on top of the new dependencies: merge can be error prone in this case as auto-merge settings can sometimes mess up the syntax. And in all other cases - merge is the way to go. Github, Gitlab and Bitbucket also favor this approach because their branch protection settings typically center around squash and merge, which are better suite for everyday actions that can be done automatically.

  460. Ignoring incorrect percentage calculation, in regards to this topic I always wondered why aren't Tesla, Nissan, Toyota and so on not pushing for an international swappable battery standard? If you think about it, the worst part about EV is not the recharging itself (400-500km of range is similar to a petrol engine between fill-ups), but the time it takes to charge. A most obvious solution is to use a standardized and easily replaceable cells, and build infrastructure that could simply swap them out. All cell arrays are always at the vehicle's bottom, if it was built with this in mind, it could simply drive over a platform, that could remove drained cells from the array, replace them with charged cells from it's storage, and put the drained cells into it's storage for charging. With a big enough storage it could only run the risk of having no ready cells at especially long peak hours. And using similar international standard for batteries would allow much better control over it's production process, and solve the charge time issue.

In this video, the stressing was wrong (it's on the second 'o', stressing is one of the most important aspects of our language), but even if it was correct, I still would have thought it was English, until I realised from the video content it was a Russian word.   477. I would not be surprised if we see an AGI within our lifetimes, if someone actually decides it's worth the effort to develop one. But that is still kinda big question IMO. If AGI has human-like intelligence and can form opinions, then it's not guaranteed to do what we tell it to do. And if it decides not to cooperate, then all those billions of dollars end up down the drain.

They could buy long-term bonds that governments can use in sustainability projects. There would be demand to remove artificial complications of financial market to utilize the citizen's wealth. Everyone would equally benefit from growth. Do not defend consumerism. It's a plague and if it's not eradicated within our lifetimes, our kids or grandkids will not have a lifetime.

  487. The world is currently in a sort-of a recession with both China and EU struggling with their financial situation and US struggling with monopolization and insane and rising income inequality. But soon enough putin will die and I believe that both China and Russia will democratize, then we should enter a recovery period. Of course we will still have to deal with the demographic shift and with the current financial system being designed to funnel all additional value into the pockets of the 1%, it's unlikely we'll have as good at a time as boomers had it, but I think that lack of jobs is definitely not going to be an issue. If anything it will be another way around as the working population shrinks across the entire developed world. Worst thing that might happen is you might have to take a re-specialization course. At least I have more respect for people who are open to learn new things all the time than for people who obsess over a single thing and are unable to change their mind at all. I am sure I am not the only one. We have in the company a person who re-specialized from music production to IT at age of 50, and he is awesome to work with. Incidentally, I am expecting non-official education to be a massively growing market soon. Things like Udemy or Skillshare, or virtual universities will likely be the kind of places that add more jobs to the market, among other things. Civil Engineering and Electrical engineering will likely grow too, as we will embed more devices into the infrastructure. Service market will also grow, as consumerism winds down.

Not every BMW driver is an asshole, but many asshole drivers are BMW drivers, you know? I can personally corroborate this as throughout my life, no other dog breed has shown more aggression or attempted to bite me or my family than rottweiler. It gets so bad that often when people see an owner walking this breed that doesn't look strong enough to handle their lunge attempts, they go to the other side of the street, especially if they have kids. I've seen this many times and it's 100% justified. Just a few weeks ago a Rottweiler lunged at my mother, snapping as if she was his mortal enemy. I don't even want to think what would have happened if the man walking him wasn't a 2 meter tall behemoth himself. I don't doubt that they are cuddly and cute with owners, but responsible owners must know the different of their dog's behaviour towards them and strangers, and train the dog accordingly. Seems that many of the owners choosing this breed don't care about that. In addition, the data doesn't like - Rottweiler attacks are in second place behind Pitbulls when it comes to fatal dog attacks. And regarding Pitbulls - I think the reason is the same. The breed is just attractive to assholes who don't care about others, and the dogs end up suffering for it. So you are totally right, the dog doesn't deserve this. It's not really more aggressive than other herding dogs, but somehow it's appearance seems to attract people who really shouldn't be allowed to have a pet. If the people who got this breed were like Rhonda's owner, I am sure the stats and the rep would be completely different.

We've been trying to do so for 10 years, but because of EU, China and USA, we couldn't do it - he just throws more money at each of our efforts. Democracy is good and all, but of course cheap oil and gas is more important, even if everyone knows it goes directly to putin's pocket, and everyone knows what he uses it for. However, even if democracies "get their shit together" and stop paying putin 30+ billion €/month as they're doing now despite the war, and we do overthrow him, there is no way Russia could ever maintain partnership in the program after that. Putin has destroyed our economy, our society, our relations and the reparations to Ukraine will drain any growth we could have if we manage to put a proper government in place. And so far it anyway doesn't look like anyone's willing to put in a full embargo to stop feeding his repression machine. If the oil and gas embargo is not in place, no matter if the war stops or not, he will have enough money to suppress us. It's all just about money. Your money.
