@SimoneandMalcolm Simone was not asexual but merely VERY specific in what she wanted in a partner. So specific and diligent that she sent out 30 emails a week to prospects such as yourself. Completely removing a billion year old drive will have consequences you don’t want. Perhaps it can be muted or reoriented. Destroyed would just create a race with even less incentive to breed as soon as they stopped being in your culture or turned in a different rational direction.

36:38 removing arousal would have externalities we can’t predict. You rightly have pointed out that people prone to addiction, such as yourself, often have this superhuman drive to succeed and therefore eliminating that gene may not be a net benefit for humanity. Regarding arousal and food, since these are such strong ancient pathways, it would be smarter to engineer them to adapt to modern and or novel (new planet etc) environments and have them tweaked by AI or genetic controls RATHER than eliminated. E.g. you are extremely aroused by those who are also great parents etc. I think the pathways originally worked this way and over evolutionary time (natural or selected) will again work. Eliminating these appetitive desires entirely, may unintentionally create motivationless losers.
