@SimoneandMalcolm From the Roman perspective, before Christianity became pro-natal it was. The Romans were strong, beauty loving and full of strength, their slaves were meek, hated the rich and powerful etc. it was a slave rebellion in values, Jesus was a convict etc. Crosses were offensive to Romans a very gross thing associated with slaves and criminals. The cross itself was like throwing soup on a painting for them. An Inversion of their conception of holiness which would have been a strong Jupiter (Zues) who conquers etc. rather than a God who dies a sad criminal death
