  1. 3:32: I’m sure people are already saying it, but ‘the surface of our brains are covered in proteins called prions’ is not true at all. I get that Simon is just reading a script, but this is really inaccurate. Prions are the misfolded proteins. While non-living, they are an infective particle in that they cause other proteins to misfold by contact (those previously normal proteins then becoming prions). This can occur throughout the brain. We do have layers of cells and tissue (dura mata, archnoid, pia mata) covering our brains, but they are not to do with prion diseases.

  10. I have to admit, I have no idea how you'd test for warfarin after death. I know it's effects hang around for ages. Would it be INR or vitamin K? Or the drug itself? The splenomegaly could have caused thrombocytopaenia, which can also prevent blood clotting. And enlarged spleens are pretty prone to rupture.

  15. I’d love to see a Biographics on Douglas Mawson and the Mawson expedition. I have to admit this is slightly narcissistic. My great-grandfather went on the Mawson expedition as a biologist.

  16. He doesn’t actually write the scripts or do the editing/posting. I know we’re responsible what we say, but this isn’t a one-man channel. Perhaps supplying some links to support your claims or suggested reading may help me trust you over this channel.

But yeah, they had nothing like the non-invasive and invasive respiratory support systems or other organ support equipment (including IV fluids) we have today.

Believe it or not I don’t actually believe in shoggoths and elder things. 😉 One party member actually did succumb to schizophrenia during the expedition. It was quite sad and put a lot of pressure on the other expedition members.
