However the legal rights of families are also important, before the occupation Japanese fathers had sovereignty over the family, this culture has declined since it left law. Also the government has encouraged women entering the workforce in order to fill the decline in gdp caused by the population decline, this is a short term solution that cements the underlying problem.

  2. It's mother in law not step mother. Japan has a very low divorce rate, there aren't many step mothers.
