It should be mentioned that many of those sent to Stalin were civilians. While those who fought with the Germans were undoubtedly as guilty of war crimes as many German soldiers, those who fought during the civil war are a harder case as Soviet sources aren't much better than none considered they were almost always written with the aim of distorting the truth or creating a false narrative. It was likely much more than 80,000 and these included Russians in the US army and the wives and daughters of Russians born after the civil war. Many committed suicide and the British accounts state machine gun fire and mass gang r*pes (by the Soviets) during handover. It would be interesting to see if any handed over are still alive as one gets the impression that they didn't even make it to the gulags. It's difficult to say exactly what happened as the files are still classified by all involved.

I seen accounts that they heard them being shot but didn't see it. One account states that he saw the daughters being separated out and r*ped though.

What was certainly a crime however was the repatriation of Russians who never fought for the Germans (including Cossacks) and of the family's of Russians, including children.
