There are plenty of jobs so long as you don't insist on being an office worker. Japan is as short of farmers as it is doctors.

@teary3109 Civilisations need a growing population more than economic prosperity (A civilisation like Carthage was always going to lose to a civilisation like Rome because the game was rigged). Education that is not utilised is wasted and plenty of it is inefficient anyway. Japan needs farmers as much as doctors, having less children to afford the children you do have aiming to become doctors doesn’t work it merely hollows out society. People need to understand that having children if a far bigger contribution to society than their career ever will be as children are a force multiplier (even if you make 40,000 good luck outcompeting your three children who make 15,000, and thats if you are so talented that your children can’t match you). On top of that children will likely give you more fulfilment in life than your career anyway. A move back to traditional Confucian family structures would probably be for the best.

Important point and answer is usually no or at least that it could be done better for less (both in time and money) if the existing structure was abandoned and only results mattered.

I think you have struck at the heart of the problem.

@707bear3 If they have more children then they can have both.

No, colleges owe their success much more to making people think they are required than any objective usefulness, even in the areas where they are certainly required (like medical training) they are often hilariously inefficient and out of touch with reality or a sense of the worth of time or indeed the money the extract from students. Also in non results focused subjects academics are to the intellectual discussion what politicians are to the political structure.
