A little secret, guys find most girls naturally pretty and there are always way more guys that will think someone below average attractive than women who think the same about men in that position. Personality is also a huge factor as is the impression one gives off (one of the reasons that being funny is seen as so important to many men). Make-up of over done can make even pretty women unattractive especially if done in a particular style (felt tip eyebrows, terrible fake tan and a melted face look are the thing where I am) as that can imply connotations of lifestyles or personalities that many find unattractive. Men who don't like make-up tend to be more conservative (unless it's just nonsense meant to round out someone's individualism, like all the people with fake allergies) and is because they are looking for someone modest, comfortable with themselves and who is likely as they are to be inexperienced with relationships and\or looking towards something permanent where the two sides will be open about and share the responsibilities of the burdens and feelings of personal inadequacy.
