People have literally done studies on this, the vast majority regret not having kids, and of the current women who either aren't able to have them or are likely not to most wanted kids, they left it too late. There is a reason why IVF has exploded.

It is ultimately cultural, it is about the values people hold, liberal individualism is sterile while the more traditional dogmas like Confucianism and Christianity are intensely pro-natal as traditions which aren't died quickly just as liberal society is dying. It ends up that welfare will not fill in what has become morally degraded and economically inconvenient. The state wants to have its cake and eat it too, they want thriving families, but each member of said family to be the private serf of a corporation for the sake of the precious GDP. Thus they talk about giving women money to not see their children rather than questioning if increasing women's work hours is a good solution to an aging population.

Yes, this is correct. Social degradation makes life difficult. Community building is probably something to be investing in as an actual thing and not just a corporate buzz word. The number one investment is time, as social relationships are built on the social stuff, not government grants, even if grants are measurable.

The likelihood of that massively goes up past 35, which is when women with such a mentality typically have kids. But I can sympathise with the feelings of a lack of security. Though I doubt that is a cause, wars cause baby booms.

If you are talking to the commenters then we don't control government fiscal policy, nor do we control nature, resources are finite. The number one thing to do it to change social contexts and the perspective of people on life. The declining birth rate has hit countries irrespective of wealth. It is about much more than it, even if of course people would feel better with more in the bank.

What is a 'good' person. Is it the same as being a patriarch or matriarch. I see a lot of weak parenting that is meant to be nice, and a lack of responsibility from parents as much as their children.

@anananana5366 These people typically want to have children in their 30's, find it too late in the late 30's and grieve it for the rest of their life. They don't wake up at 75 and wish they had a family.

Rents in Japan are way better than basically anywhere in the western world, outside of the cities housing is outright affordable, it is a place that young people could buy a house in, something that young people here would literally be willing to fight a war for.

Yes, but in most of them the birth rate is also declining, the number of countries with high birth rates now is much lower than twenty years ago even if they have basically all been poor countries for much longer. The exceptions are central asia, that is more low wealth than poor, and certainly richer than many of the poor countries with low birth rates, and Israel, which is a first world country. People have studied these countries to gain policy ideas but it seems like the big things are social and cultural, and thus it is hard to replicate.

85% of women who will not have children wanted to have them. A lot of work is done on understanding this problem, the habit of justifying bad things and malaffimation so common among women is very bad as at best it perpetuates inactivity and at worst it actively sabotages young women who have no way of knowing better. Probably the worst of the toxic feminine traits is giving malicious advice to other women to affirm one's own mistakes. It's really evil.
