You are interpreting what he is say far too much through a capitalist economic perspective. You should read into the Russian civil war, many of these opinions are very much more formed by recent political events than by economics. A wide band of political opinion, including that even of many German Jews at the time is fundamentally similar due to what was happening in the East, and conflicts with the German communists. Every political faction, including very left wing ones were horrified by the terror, and blamed it on "internationalists", this was seen as a personal threat due to what was happening. It's his solutions that are defining him at this point more so than his opinions.

@TheImperatorKnight I did some as well, it's probably on a worse level than WW2 with convenient interpretations and selective sourcing. The conclusions and moral judgements you are making are very questionable as you are fitting a lot into your model that should be properly understood as historical context, and not really revealing a huge amount about his character. The fact he flipped loyalties and the consistency with later views are interesting, but a lot of what he is saying is very generic in the context of the times, it might suggest some influence of white émigré thinkers or press.

@ As you can see from the fact he hearted your comment he is rather difficult to get through to at all. I won't blame him as I have the same bad habit of refusing to consider what I didn't think of myself. This is about the usual. I've had this experience with quite a few comments over the years. My concern is that he's getting deeper into the assumptions over time, the whole altruism thing is ludicrous. I hope he doesn't end up like James Lindsay and start accusing political opponents of being part of a Calvinist led Catholic Zoroastrian demon conspiracy which consists of praying the St Michael prayer on twitter.

Family should absolutely look out for each other, though tough love is part of that and unless you can secure the connections necessary to open doors (the actual way people secure opportunities, as humans are social rather than economic animals) to a creative career you should make sure they don't jump into such foolishness. And of course the cultivation of virtue is paramount.

@ People in such careers are usually either independently wealthy or part of some financial scheme. Lazy people usually either go for welfare or a corporate email job, probably in HR. Artists might be hacks, but they do it for the social prestige rather than because it's easy.

It is also notable that the Bolsheviks engaged very openly is unprecedented ethnic violence (it was baked in even to how they organised their forces). Which deeply shaped the views of practically every political camp, including leading to considerable hostility from German Jews towards their Eastern brethren. His view of the problem at hand could have been said even by them, though his solutions would have to be reworded to conform either with the Zionist (which only needs very slight rewording to approximate their views, and indeed radical portions were practically friendly towards his movement given the use it could be put to by theirs) or Nationalist (as in that they were German first and proud of it, nationalism being widespread in intellectual circles in which many were deeply entrenched, many such men were war veterans ironically given later events) perspective that split their own views.

This is a difference between apostolic and non-conformist Christianity. Apostolic (so Catholics Orthodox etc) believe that the Church is the continuation of Judaism and that by renouncing God the Jews of today are a separate faith from that of old, attitudes indeed hardened over time due to divergence in Jewish theology from that of Christ's own time, which was seen as proof. Non-conformists on the other hand are into doomsday prophecies prominently featuring the recreation of Israel as a physical country, various stuff about lost tribes of Israel and a concerning drive to enact the end times by fulfilling the conditions they have made up, hopefully at least. This means a very different way of looking at things.
