  2. He was a bad imperialist, his actions directly lead to the death of the British Empire and the loss of British world power status.

MacArthur was an arrogant bastard who got a lot of men needlessly killed but he could come up with military plans which were actually feasible, basically anything Churchill touched went to shit and he was always extremely handsy. If MacArthur had become president or got his hands on some nukes during the Korean war then maybe he could have rivaled Churchill but even then he'd have had a hard time of it.

The British establishment, including the aristocracy had plenty of competent people with a practical attitude, it's just that none of them were politicians and the telephone and other fast means of communication meant that the stupid people got to call the shots because of their preminence in the democratic system. One of the reasons for the effective expansion of European empires was that the political centre would only learn about things after the fact and that local forces had a great deal of autonomy.

  7. If the Soviet Union fell as the German military thought it would then Britain would be isolated and reliant the prospects of a naval invasion against the full force of the German army. It was assumed they would have to sue for peace or lose some colonies and then sue for peace on worse terms.
