The 9 who made it to Pitciairn Island were most likely child r*pists, certainly their descendants were, with their crimes against the women and girls of the island only being uncovered in the 2000's, perpetrators (including the mayor) being incensed by the resulting legal charges and claiming that what they did was just "Polynesian culture". Given the accounts of it being a deeply rooted tradition by older women on the island it was mostly likely a tradition passed down from the mutineers and their likely kidnapping of the women they would bring with them to the island (oh yeah, and the reason why there was only one left when the British got there is that they had killed each other). These days the islands are mostly know for having the most sex offenders per foot of anywhere in the world and the islanders running an online scam where they claim to offer residency if you send send them money and then decline the application.
