One of the benefits of the new education system was that they could force all of the left handed people to become right handed, and they did so with considerable vigour, you still bump into the occasional old person who's ambidextrous or inconsistently right handed thanks to their efforts today. Presumably they stop hitting the lefty out of them with rulers at some point in the 60's, I'm sure you'll find people who would say that it's not a coincidence that everything has gone downhill since then.

  3. If the war had started a bit later they might have done that but it started when it did and they didn't have the time or money to retool all the factories when the revolver was good enough and liked by the troops.
