Lol, Russia is an industrial power, Europe is a deindustrialised and politically unstable bureaucratic quagmire. Russia is 100% a better partner, but not a better subordinate, the problem Trump has is that while Europe is subordinate to US power they are loyal to a particular state apparatus within America, not to his administration. Thus for him it is important to change their government's by destabilising them from the outside, if he does this their new regimes will be friendly to his faction not matter if they lose power in the US. He's playing a much bigger game.

@ GDP is a practically meaningless metric, money can't buy industrial output and in the west is mostly government spending on absolute nonsense in the first place. Ukraine was given most of Europe's arm supplies and had a motivated population, the Russians do suck at logistics but if it wasn't for the Finns, Poles and Balts Europe would be vulnerable.

It's kind of a joke to frame it as democracy at all, those funds were to form a dependent oligarchy within America's proxy states. The causes they go towards is entirely the subversion of popular will and national interests within those countries.
