That's quite true. And I think if you need emergency health Care in Canada you will get it. And it'll be world-class. But there are a lot of things that do not qualify as an emergency, and when you have these problems you will wait for a long long time, sometimes years. You're only remedy is to leave the country and seek healthcare elsewhere. Why would you want to pay 54% tax in Ontario and not have accessible healthcare. It's simply not fair

It's not only the high cost of education. The schools are quite Limited with enrollment capacities. So you have to be quite brilliant to be able to get in in the first place. That's why a lot of people are leaving Canada to get education in Europe and other places.

Costa Rica is a third world country with a single b credit rating. So while the cost of healthcare would be rather cheap, where would they get all the money to buy all this advanced equipment, especially the type of equipment that you would need if you have complex surgery? And moreover because the wages are so low, it incentivizes almost everyone to look for greener pastures where they can earn more money.

I think covid-19 has burnt out a lot of hospitals and healthcare workers. And when they put caps on salaries, it's not that difficult if you're a physician to become a computer scientist. And you have a lot less stress, and you can make a lot more money. So people are leaving the profession in droves. And the country is trying to bring in people from third world countries. It's hard to say what their education is like, hopefully they're not witch doctors

@ib9511 I've never been to Romania even though I am an eu citizen. But they do have free education and most European countries. Usually that translates into the fact that there are more trained personnel. While some will leave looking for greener pastures, many do stay. Makes sense

@ib9511 I know you didn't. I was just trying to be politically correct, but as a human being, I have a certain soft spot in my mind for people fearing persecution and wanting to escape. There's a big difference between that and economic migrants that are not in any danger and simply looking for a better life. These people are trying to escape death.

So you think we should all abstain from going to doctors, and just stay home and die as opposed to trying to preserve our life and go see duly qualified doctors, for the purpose of making ourselves better? Yes, doctors are human, and they clearly do make mistakes. But they follow scientific rules, and sometimes particularly when they're overworked or tired as is often the case with long shifts, they can make mistakes. But you as a patient need to ask probative questions to make sure you are getting good treatment. And of course you can also go up get second opinions. All of these things become more difficult naturally when access to doctors becomes challenging. People often avoid going to emergency rooms because of the long wait times to see the on-duty physician. Obviously they don't treat people in order as they come, but rather on the severity and urgency of the particular issue. Life-threatening issues are obviously dealt with first. As well, there may be backlogs in imaging, getting radiologist reports, and dealing with other specialists constraints, but to suggest that people shouldn't see doctors because of the potential of malpractice borders on the premise of insanity. I think you should give your head a shake!

@debbiea1494 oh that's a simple answer. Because it's cheap! If you have a fixed income of say $3,000 a month, you can live like a king in Costa Rica. Not so much in Canada. So when you look at retirement locations, a lot of people do move to these third world countries because it's very affordable. The corruption doesn't really bother them that much, because they have no money that anyone can extort them for, so they're not a Target. And the country loves them coming because all they do is spend money and buy things and don't work or take jobs from locals. It's a marriage made in heaven. But don't use that information to determine the quality of healthcare. They don't have the expertise to do highly complex operations. They would probably be okay for normal things though, so many people are going. But if you have a complex surgery, I wouldn't want to have it done in Costa Rica!

I think that acronym came from these countries having high debt ratios versus GDP. I don't think the tax system is particularly good in Portugal. Italy and Greece not bad, you can pay $100,000 Euros flat rate tax in Greece and Italy. Spain, I wouldn't touch it with a 10 ft pool. They have wealth tax there, no thank you
