  1. I'm not sure how the relevance of moving to a high production natural resource country would benefit any person. As you clearly opined, the United States and Canada are large natural resource producers, yet, all of the population pay the world price which is set by the economy, supply and demand Plus in the case of Canada, some hefty ad on taxes in the form of road taxes etc. Now certainly you could argue that countries like Iran and Venezuela have severely subsidized oil prices likely for the purpose of keeping their population subdued due to the riots that might ensue had they gone to a world pricing system. And with all of these subsidies such as in the case of Venezuela you see lots of oil being moved across the border to Columbia at severely subsidized prices even though Columbia also produces a substantial amount of oil
