Homie, I usually love your content, but this is stupid. While some measures have improved Salmon passage, they haven't and won't recover to their pre-dam numbers - not even close. You used populations in the 1970s and 1980s—when they were at their lowest — as a baseline, making 100,000 salmon seem like a lot. How about using the pre-dam populations, when tens of millions of salmon would pass these places now blocked by dams? Before the dams were built, the salmon swim was dozens to hundreds of times larger than it is today. The only places in America where we still see swims like this are dam-less areas in British Columbia and Alaska - the only places where wild salmon fishing is still commercially viable and sustainable. Fish aren't the only problem; water conservation is another. Lake Powell and Lake Mead together lose around 2000 cubic feet of water per second on average—enough to sustain Phoenix's entire water demand—to evaporation. That's 20% of the Colorado River's flow lost to evaporation. Draining Lake Powell alone would be enough to provide 1000 cfs of water to the Colorado River delta and restore swaths of what used to be one of the most biologically diverse and productive regions on Earth.
