Something I think this doesn't account for is that Titanic is near a seismic zone. In 1929, an earthquake of magnitude 7.2 struck 300 miles west of Titanic. The wreck was likely in good enough condition in 1929 that the shaking and submarine landslides wouldn't have been too damaging. Today, however, the ship is far more fragile. I can't imagine that it would survive any sort of significant shaking today, much less so the impact of a submarine debris flow.

Honestly, if they just had AC and kept the water tight doors shut on the Britannic, it wouldn't have sunk. At that point, sinking it would've required an event that would have probably killed every instantly anyway.

@tarstarkusz Don't look to America as an example of what passenger rail should or could be, look at Italy, Japan, or heck 1930s America.

@tarstarkusz Which is about 4 times slower than taking a train in Europe or East Asia. In fact, a single Shinkansen in Japan can move about twice as many people as an interstate per hour.

It's really fascinating how much things would've changed had the great depression only happened 5 years later.
