@blaydCA Nope. China relies on the US for a lot of food like soybeans, electric machinery, and aerospace products. In 2024, the U.S. exported approximately $143.5 billion worth of goods to China, with significant categories including agricultural products and machinery. No US, no modernization or relevant trade for China to engage in as part of WTO & G7. They're screwed without us.

@blaydCA The WH has never had a chief executive with the amount of knowledge and real-world experience in so many industries before, let alone formal business schooling. The status quo got us into very precarious trade and economic circumstances, with all other candidates proposing more of the same. Many have been on Chinese bribery pay-outs, including Bushes, Clintons, and Bidens.

@tedvolz9674 We blend it with Canadian heavy crude, so it doesn't matter. We refine 2/3 of Canada's oil as they don't have capacity to refine all they extract.

@daweima7670 Not how tariffs work. A lot of products are dropping in price so China can keep factories running while they try to offload on domestic and neighboring markets, none of which have anywhere near the buying power of the US. It positions the US better when new pricing is negotiated.

@daweima7670 I'm a business major who has been in all kinds of businesses for decades, and have lived in South Korea, Japan, and all over Europe. I deal with suppliers, buyers, and retailers all the time. In the US, I've been calling for critical domestic manufacturing of energy grid products, tools, construction supplies, home builder components, automotive components, and appliances for decades. I don't want to see any of that made in China anymore, especially after Xi called for people's war against the US. I'm also very concerned about housing affordability for my kids and grandkids. Right now, real estate is absolutely inflated by about 40% relative to median household income. Companies have been profiting off US products, moving their manufacturing to China, and we've lost 10% of the middle class as a result. Look at what % of the US was middle class in 1971 vs today.

@TheHollowjoint Trump just made it mandatory for US truckers to speak English, so truckers who are let go will primarily be Biden-era illegals and substandard-licensed immigrants who make the roads more dangerous and often smuggle narcotics and people.

@johancreemers6796 The rest of the world has no choice other than what place in line they want to get into with preferential treatment with the new order of trade deals set by the Trump WH. First in line gets treated well, last in line gets bent over as they deserve for not respecting the power of the US. It’s pretty simple.

This year will be a very brutal wake-up call to those who don’t understand the fundamental power structures of the world. America has treated other countries as equals for far too long, and those countries actually started believing this was reality.

@mdev69 There are a lot of products that Americans simply have no interest in making, as the US job market is ~80% services, the rest left to agriculture, manufacturing, and mining. US has a very high value-added labor market that other countries depend on, while we also provide our basic necessities in food, construction, transportation, energy, and defense. Other countries don’t enjoy those hands of cards in the labor and industrial sectors.
