@fusion_flicks95 Russian avionics? Not sure if serious. Russian avionics is world-renowned for being garbage and decades behind the US. They've been in the habit of making poor copies of US electronics since Lend-Lease in the 1940s.

The F-35A was never made with the intent to do the F-15C’s or F-15E’s job better, but it still does. The F-15C even with AESA, JTIDS, JHMCS, AIM-9X, AIM-120D, new EW suite is nothing but a TGT for F-35As, and doesn’t have the combat radius that the F-35A does either. The F-15E takes 2 crew to do the same job the F-35A does in the precision strike role, while the F-15E currently relies on the F-35A to act as an offensive EW aircraft for it when entering threat perimeter defense radar nets. The F-35As then swing to deep precisions trike into the MEZ where the F-15E can’t go, then after dropping their ordnance, turn into AWACS to manage follow-on F-15E sorties to provide updates targeting info for them to switch to TGTs that haven’t been serviced yet. It then escorts them out of the primer defenses with EW again, much like the EF-111A did, but with greater capabilities in cooperative networked EW with AESAs and its EW system.

Who does Electronic Attack better, EF-111A or any F-35? Any F-35 Who does precision strike better into the MEZ, defenseless F-117A or F-35? F-35 Who does AWACS better, E-3 or JSF? JSF Who does ISR better, U-2, Reaper, legacy fighters with Recce pods or F-35? F-35, not even close Who does anti-ship better, legacy jets or F-35? Stealth hunter of the shadows with the greatest AESA and fused sensor suite of any fighter in the sky (F-35) Who does CAS better, the 280kt radar-less A-10 IR SAM magnet, or the supersonic F-35 with high resolution radar ground-mapping and fused IR sensor suite? F-35 I spent a great deal of time evaluating the JSF in each of these metrics based on decades of exposure to the teen fighters and many of their developmental programs before I came to those conclusions. This is a revolutionary system that can’t be accurately nomenclature with F in front of it.

@nationalistcanuck7800 MiG-25 took features from the US A-5 Vigilante and Canadian Avro Arrow, then used Stainless steel for much of its construction. It was designed and employed as a supersonic, high altitude point defense fighter with very short mission profile due to fuel consumption. KGB moles in the CIA vastly over-reported the MiG-25 performance internally, sending the USAF into an accelerated solicitation to the US aerospace industry.

A-10s have been involved in fratricide incidents against US Marines even with visual range TGT ID requirements that the A-10 has been limited to until the A-10C upgrade program. Which marines do you want to ask? The ones who got smoked by A-10s, or new ones who have never worked with them?

They primarily fly it slick with internal weapons, or internal weapons plus stations 1 & 13 with AIM-9Xs. Beast mode makes more sense for the USMC focused on CAS and armed reconnaissance.

The F-35A has far superior loiter capability and range than the A-10C could ever hope for. A-10C combat radius is roughly 250nm with decent station time. F-35A combat radius is 600-700nm plus, with 18,400lb internal fuel. Stores capacity? Not sure if you looked before posting that but F-35A has way more stores capacity than the Hawg. A-10 payload: 16,000lb F-35A payload: 18,000 peacetime, 23,000lb if combat conditions mandate it (takes away your abort procedures buffer on certain runway lengths) F-15EX was never ordered by the USAF. They don’t really know what they’re going to do with it, other than Air Defense Fighter mission in the Air National Guard. A lot of ANG units who were thinking they were gettin F-35As are now complaining that they don’t want to get shafted with an F-15EX.

The F-35A and F-35B provide a new level of CAS that the A-10 has never been able to do, nor will ever be able to do. The A-10, as much as we appreciate it, has been the #1 perpetrator platform for fratricide against ground troops since Desert Storm, not only against US Army, but US Marines, UK Army, Australians, and Canadians in ODS, Afghanistan, and Iraq. That’s with the A-10 being one of the least-requested/least-responsive CAS platforms. Primary CAS platforms have been the F-15E, Reaper, B-1B, F-16C, and Hornets. It takes too long for Hawgs to get to TIC, so by the time they arrive in many cases, it’s already over. What JSF brings to the table for CAS is beyond visual range, higher SA, through-the-weather, day or night precision ISR and targeting of threat forces near friendlies, with far superior means to distinguish between Blue forces and threats. The A-10C has been equipped with a fraction of these technologies in the form of LITENING FLIR, Helmet-cued FLIR, Link-16v4 architecture, JTIDS display, glass cockpit, and GPS delivering the same weapons the F-35 does mostly, but A-10C doesn’t and will never have AESA with high resolution radar ground mapping fused with EOTS and DAS, real-time cooperative TGT area imagery development, or long range ballistic toss capabilities with the SDB II PGM or JDAMs.

This is incorrect. $17,048 is nowhere near the median income in the poorest of States, let alone median household income. The real waste, fraud, and abuse is happening in Medicare, Medicaid, and the VA, along with most other Federal government programs. Fighters have way too much scrutiny on them.

A-10s don’t servive in close combat, so what’s your point exactly? They were IR SAM magnets in Desert Storm, had to be grounded before we lost any more pilots and airframes.

Most 4th Gen fighters don’t fly Mach 1.6 with weapons and pylons due to parasitic drag, excess fuel consumption, and weapons fusing restrictions from aerodynamic heating. F-35As end up flying faster average speeds compared with the prior generation as a rule since they normally don’t have many external stores and have far better fuel fraction that can actually support multiple supersonic dashes on a single sortie without needing to hit the tanker all the time.

@soumyadipM6627 There is no USAF plan to do any such thing. Just like every so many years, the AF COS asked to do a future fighter study as to what the force mix needs to look like down the road. I lived through these types of studies and new hyped-up platforms for decades, only to see 3 of them funded. The 3 that got funded were relatively low-key, with the exception of the ETF (Enhanced Tactical Fighter) which became the F-15E Strike Eagle. We already started our future fighter force studies back in the 1970s and early 1980s. The F-22A and F-35A are the results of those studies for the USAF, while the F-35B is the result for the USMC, and the F-35C for the USN and USMC carrier-borne variants.

They are forbidden from doing it for public air demos per USAF regulations, which is part of the USAF extreme safety culture and no fun allowed. If I was in charge, they would strafe targets for real away from audience well outside of the ballistic potential of the weapons like they used to do in the 1970s.

Nothing on the JSF series is junk. None of the legacy aircraft have better capabilities and they aren’t cheaper to maintain. They never include the costs to maintain all the attached combat systems on F-16C, F/A-18C/D, or AV-8B because those can be considered separate systems, which all have their own separate maintenance footprint. I’m talking about FLIR, ECM, and integrated systems pylons attached the jets that were never part of the original designs. F-35s have all these systems built into the airframes and can’t be separated in a cost analysis.

@NuclearGlowTM USMC is still flying AV-8Bs, which will be retired/replaced in a few years as more F-35Bs roll off the line. F-16s aren't survivable and don't have anywhere near the range of the F-35A. Average life of F-16CM fleet in USAF is 28.5 years. Highly advanced Israeli F-16I just got shot down by older S-200 from Syria in 2018. They have way more ECM gear in Israeli F-16Is than USAF F-16CMs could ever fit. Israelis just ordered another 50 F-35s. The latest F-16E/F Desert Falcons for UAE cost $200 million per. UAE has been watching and training with USAF F-35As in the Gulf, just ordered 50 F-35As even after getting newer F-16s than the USAF has. We've been hardening our combat systems for EMP since the 1950s and 1960s Atmospheric Nuke Tests. F-35 is mostly fiber optic anyway, especially for the digital flight control system.

@NuclearGlowTM USMC operational squadrons even with the F-35B reported twice the availability rates on deployment compared to their legacy Harriers and Hornets. Looking at the DoD Comptroller costs per hour for all aircraft, F/A-18s in USMC service cost more to operate than F-35Bs. They definitely are not more reliable or available.

@NuclearGlowTM The most expensive systems on fighters are the engines and radars, not sapphire glass on the EOTS subsystem. The legacy fighters would cost more to produce because they don't have integrated systems and you have to spend the same money on radars and engines. You spend additional money on FLIR, ECM, and pylon countermeasures that never get listed in unit costs.

@giuseppecasa3574 Much farther than that. But the APG-81 isn't the primary detection system. It uses passive fused RF and IR systems and then the AESA in LPI mode for Positive ID and threat assessment. APG-81 is the most advanced fighter AESA currently, with detection range for a 1m2 RCS at anywhere from 250-400km.

@nationalistcanuck7800 Not a single air-breathing fighter has ever reached Mach 3.5. MiG-25 could top out at Mach 2.8, but they avoided that regime. It definitely would average supersonic speeds throughout its mission profile though, giving it very fast intercept times. The F-111D was faster. When they changed the F-111 pilot selection program from having high-hr experience in another fast jet, and started letting UPT new guys go straight into the Vark, they had one of these guys accidentally hit Mach 3 in an F-111D out of Cannon AFB, NM. He even inadvertently violated Mexican airspace during the flight. The F-111 could achieve high altitude, sustained Mach 2+ speeds and still have a lot of fuel left for a much longer mission profile than any Foxbat. It wasn't until the MiG-31 that the Russians got that concept worked-out, this time without using stainless construction.

@nationalistcanuck7800 Vigilante intake design, wings, and Mach 2 5+ performance existed way before the MiG-25. KGB had moles within the Avro Arrow program. Radome ogive and cockpit for the MiG-25 were taken from the Arrow since Canadians had done the aerodynamic research already. There's a good documentary on it. Go look up Vigilante's date of introduction and try to find any other fighter with that intake and wing geometry prior. Then print out huge font "MORON" on a piece of paper and tape it to your mirror. Foxbat and Foxhound could never cruise anywhere near SR-71 speeds, nor reach them. MiG-25 burns all its fuel to reach altitude and supersonic intercept profiles, rarely even breaking Mach 2 on a normal intercept. Study more before posting.

The F-35 has a small thrust-to-weight ratio? Have you done the math on that lately? F-35A has one of the highest T/W ratios of all fighters, and in actual combat configuration crushes every fighter except for the F-22A. You have to jettison most of your external stores in any 4th Gen fighter if you want to match or slightly exceed the F-35A T/W, which won’t matter because you’re not going to get into an energy fight with one anyway.

The F-35A supersedes the F-16C, F-117A, and A-10A/C. The F-35B supersedes the AV-8B, F/A-18A-D in USMC. The F-35B supersedes the Harrier and Tornado in the UK. The F-35C supersedes the F/A-18A-D for the USMC and USN.

Not only can it, but it is and does the A-10’s job better than the A-10 will ever be able to do. I’ve personally called in A-10s before, as well as F-16Cs, and have spoken with JTACs about this. They said the F-35A sees things that frankly scare them, before they even hear it. It knows more about where they are on the ground, what they are doing, and what is around them than they ever could themselves.

Opposite is true. The biggest boondoggle in US military history is the systemic failures in leadership education, mentoring, and developing of quality officers and NCOs, built on the biggest scam known as public schooling. It’s extremely difficult to work with the products of that system and its cancerous effects throughout the service academies, officer training courses, and NCO schools. It’s almost miraculous that we were able to build the JSF series, which is more of a testament to the engineering community chugging on somehow in the face of systemic retardation adopted by schools.

Pratt & Whitney F100 is an afterburner turbofan, not a turbojet. That was one of the biggest changes from the F-4 to teen fighters. F-111 had the first turbofans, followed by the F-14, then F-15.

Opposite is true. Pilots who have flown both the F-22A and F-35 say the situational awareness in the F-35 is really in another generation ahead of the Raptor. They are shocked about how much they can see of the airspace, ground, sea surface, and even into low earth orbit.
