Häyhä, not hay ha. He didn't prefer iron sights. He said he just didn't have a scope, otherwise he would have used one. He had a custom peep sight on his rifle that he used in competition. His Company Commander allowed him to operate a sniper sector off on the distant flank of his Company.

@Meatisfood Yes. My sources are Finnish Sniping community instructors I've worked with since 2006, who personally interviewed him in the nursing home before he passed, then took him to Kollaa where he showed them where he was located, where the masses of Russians were advancing, where his specific firing position was for one of the largest kill counts, and they even found spent cases all over that position. They sent me a plaque with one of his spent cases on it from that position, which I have in my armory. No BS

@Meatisfood Snipers in The Great War and WWII wrapped their rifles and optics with burlap, netting, and fabric to eliminate chances of glare or visible signature. In a winter environment, white cloth can be used. These guys weren't idiots, so there wouldn't have been a problem camouflaging optics. The Finnish Army was just not equipped with a lot of modern equipment or weapons. A buddy of mine who interviewed Häyhä gave me the impression that some of what has been written is inaccurate and incomplete.
