@LarryTV_Official Su-34 is not meant to be a CAS platform, but a penetration/strike fighter similar to the F-15E. It’s just that Russia is still stuck in 1800s-1940s concepts of using air power as supporting fires in their tactical training and live fire exercise doctrine, so they employ their strike fighters based on 70yr-old methods. Su-34 is meant for long range, higher altitude ingress and stand-off weapons. Russia is just way behind in development of smart munitions, even though they have some. The US and NATO in contrast have gone to a very smart weapons-heavy munitions mix, while Russia still has almost all dumb bombs.

@yumyunrangLOAL We just put GBU kits on Mk.82s and have been doing that since Desert Storm. We pioneered GBUs in Laos/Vietnam in the 1960s. My friend was a Raven FAC who called in one of the first strikes with them before the official deployment date you will ever see online. Now we have multi-mode seeker PGMs with GPS/denied GPS redundant guidance, data links, and cross-munitions data links that can TGT-switch in terminal phase if they need to. Russia is so far behind the power curve in this space that it’s worthy of ridicule. They can’t even make enough semiconductors for their arms industry, so they import them in finished commercial electronics like breast pumps and washing machines, remove the boards and components, and then engineer them to work in guidance for weapons in the grey market.

Early in the war there was footage of a guy who ejected over a lake if I recall.

To be fair, the FIM-92 has gone through many upgrades over the decades, but they haven’t been able to out cat-and-mouse it with countermeasures. US missiles are world-class, with more live fire test iterations and lessons-learned than any other nation or consortium, and the numbers aren’t even close.

Jeffrey Sachs, John Mearscheimer, Douglas MacGregor, and Scott Ritter are all on the wrong side of reality in this.

@MariosKarakatsanis Russia/Soviet Union had US support in WWII with Lend-Lease, otherwise they would have been conquered by Germany.

@MariosKarakatsanis The US sent more war material to Russia than we did to our own campaign in the Pacific, which was one of the biggest military conflicts in all of history.

@1GTX1 If you maintain them and have guys with brains (Serbs), they are very formidable. Look at all the SAM kills in Vietnam, Arab-Israeli Wars, and Ukraine.
