@Rake3577 Most of your premises are erroneous if you'll hear me out: Withdrawal of the ABM Treaty was done in coordination with Putin, which included nuclear weapons reductions as well. Installation of ABM systems was in anticipation of rogue states acquiring WMD, which many feared after the Soviet collapse. Putin was literally advising George W. Bush through that process. Coup in Georgia? Russia's invasion of Georgia in 2008 was predicated on a Russian false flag operation, the main concern being Russia's 2 gas pipelines that went from the Caspian to the Black Sea through Georgia. There was no coup in Ukraine. Putin worked very hard to install a Russian puppet in Kiev named Yanukovych, in 2010. The Ukrainian people rejected him after he signed the Russia-Eurasia Economic Pact in late 2013. This had nothing to do with the compromised and inept CIA.

@Rake3577 Russia is not even remotely close to being richest in resources either. Russia has no connected river network and is frozen almost year-round due to its latitude and relatively land-locked position. Nobody cares about Russia's resources other than maybe China and Arabs who rely on Russian grain for their subsidized bread industries. The US is the richest Nation in resources, connected river networks, largest arable farmland, sea ports, mountains, the inter-coastal waterways, vast tributaries on the Eastern Seaboard and Deep South, with vast forests, minerals, and multifaceted industries that have been built on this natural infrastructure. If US geography was taught in Russia, Russians would see that the US has no interest in Russian resources.

@JosifovGjorgi Russian intelligentsia and many Russians still see Russia as the biggest, best nation on earth. America is but a temporary annoyance who will come and go. They see themselves as entitled to Europe and surrounding territories that actually belong to them in their minds, including Ukraine, the Central Asian republics, Poland, the Baltics, Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Balkans.

@w1ngnuts If you had followed Peter Zeihan since the 2000s, he has done analyses and forecasts using very detailed maps that show the Russian pipelines going through Ukraine, their sea ports, and critical export hubs in that region. He used to be a senior analyst at STRATFOR, and they've been talking about the impending war in Europe for decades.

Russia sees itself as a more legitimate political entity than all other nations because of their history. They have to create the illusion of superiority for their people to maintain that image. A modern power like that without nukes won't be taken seriously by other nations, and therefore wouldn't be taken seriously by its own people. That's why Stalin's espionage and penetration efforts into the Manhattan Project were so extensive and aggressive. If you don't have nukes, you're not a serious player in world affairs. It's about clout.

The Russian psyche operates on the premise that someone is out to get them, so to maintain internal security, external threats are always at the door. They truly believe Western powers want to invade them.

@harleyquinn8202 MIC doesn’t have anywhere near the power people think it does. MIC is not even in the top 20 industries in the US, so those industries really command elections and what Congress does, while controlling the media. The media was also hijacked by the Soviets with co-opting Mockingbird early-on, so there hasn’t been much pro-US propaganda in media since the 1960s. One of the main messages in the US media is an anti-defense posture, constantly criticizing US defense programs, no matter what they are or in what decade they were developed.

@superman9772 Before Russia invaded, the information I've seen showed both Russian and Ukrainian grains being exported to North Africa, the Levant, and Middle East. Ukraine exported through its sea ports on the Black Sea, while Russia exported through Novorossisyk. Russia has been exporting to these areas for many years, and had to cut those exports for a season after the fires in 2010. I was in Europe that summer when we had record high temps, and Russia had terrible fires that reduced their crop yield that year. Egypt and others went to the IMF for bail-outs so they could buy wheat at higher prices in the market.
