  2. ​ @rustygehl Yanukovych was Putin's puppet in Kiev, who packed the Ukrainian govt with Donbas region ethnic Russians all working for Putin. You're trying to make sense of all this looking backwards, without having the privilege of studying the region prior to all this. Putin has had plans to take Ukraine since he inherited the Russian Presidency from Yeltsin. He sees historic Czarist territories as belonging to Russia and it's his mandate to restore those as Russia's strong man.
