@robdyck1187 Russia doesn't even have a functioning navy. They're not a seafaring people culturally, never have been. They've made very weak attempts at it, most of which was built in 13 naval yards in Ukraine during the Soviet times. They especially suck at shipyard mx and overhauls. They dropped their only large ship crane through the deck of Admiral Kuznyetsov, then caught it on fire trying to repair the gaping hole. I just don't see them being remotely successful in Arctic sea traffic. Geography is an unforgiving master.

@crosslink1493 There’s only one 2-lane road from Saint Petersburg to Murmansk. You can look at satellite imagery or Google Earth to see what I’m talking about. Russia is extremely poor with very limited infrastructure because they waste their money on weapons instead of building roads, rail, airports, shipping yards, and highways.

@joshuathompson3325 I'll take that bet and win. You haven't read a fraction of my comments, so there's no way for you to proclaim 90% of them are inaccurate. I come from an atmospheric research background where we had to demonstrate real results for weapons systems, aircraft, and missiles in DoD. I have yet to meet a single climate alarmist who has even a fragment of applied physics and legitimate research background in these disciplines. Instead, they crank out fraudulent papers and get intoxicated on their own confined flatulence.

Towers aren’t tall enough to provide LoS for RF signal over the horizon. Despite what some think, the earth is actually round, so towers will not provide anywhere near enough signal for navigation.

@robdyck1187 Yes, we lived through the development and implementation of GPS within DoD, having come from a ton of work on INS prior to that. This was all on cutting-edge, multibillion dollar programs with top priority in USAF primarily. I've spent decades dealing with RF propagation, antennae design, xmit/receiver architecture, waveforms, and a list of other challenges. Towers would only be useful for coastal navigation in the Arctic, provided you could maintain them. Mx is a b*tch in arctic conditions, which I've also spent a bit of time in, both in summer and winter.

Murmansk is really shallow portage, as that area is all swampland. There is only one 2-lane road between Saint Petersburg and Murmansk as well. No infrastructure, total joke of a place.
